Default Our yards/gardens in 2024

Since Spring has arrived and the old thread is over two years long, I thought I'd start a new one.

Donna loves this time of the year. Here's some of what she can't wait to dig into.

But there's more...

She has already spread four yards of wood mulch and has four more yards to go.

How are things looking in your yard?

Well it has been an adventure this spring. My tomato starts grew faster than anything I have ever seen. They were enormous before last frost and I had grow lights everywhere, plants all over, etc lol. I finally had to get them in the ground, then cover them a couple of times to avoid frost but all 20 of them (adding 4 more from a nursery as well this week) are looking ok after the string of storms that went through. My pepper plants unfortunately got pretty beaten up by the very high winds and thunderstorms this weekend so may have to replace some of them. Spinach is growing, lettuce ... so so (planting the 2nd batch of that this week), potatoes have sprouted. Planting squash, cucumbers and beans this week as well. So should have the garden all in the ground this week at least. Then ... off to the long list of other landscaping stuff we are behind on Was trying to focus on finishing a few projects on the shop up so I can better organize it this weekend while it was stormy out. too many projects, never enough time!

lol! We care a lot more about our food garden than our lawn. But, we do have a list of landscaping things we want to do on the yard. Part of that list is reducing the amount of stuff requiring mowing so I am all for that

In our first house we used to have a 'food' garden. Even grew corn. Farmers market to the rescue; now we just go for pretty. I use the term 'we' loosely.

I enjoy growing food ... less so a lawn I find that growing food with all the learnings from that helps fill a bit of the nerd in me. We are not trying to grow all of our own veggies or anything, but we have 9 4X8 raised beds that we grow in here.

Rick grows a few veggies, and flowers for pretty. I assist with digging. As mentioned in the past, he starts from seed, so the shelves, lights, plants occupy part of the dining area from March until May. He's got 10 green thumbs.

Looking good Dave. Our yard is still a mess from winter.

This is where my perennial garden is by my cottage. The landscaping company will be coming soon and raking the driveway and I will put the decorative rocks back in their spots and within a couple of weeks flowers should be popping up and I will start weeding. I believe the shed is coming down this spring also.
