Default Handbrake warning light keeps coming on

Hi guys,

as some of you might remember I had a front right caliper failure in early September. Honda swapped it out, but to the best of my knowledge didn't top up the fluid.

Since then I keep randomly getting the handbrake warning light coming onthe dash. I've checked the centre console and it's not the switch there.

Interesting point to note is that it's coming on when I'm braking using the footbrake, which according to some searches I have done means low fluid.

I've checked and it's definately below max, being just above minimum.

I have a trackday on Saturday so I need this sorting properly. Is my best option to get all new fluid put in, bleeding the brakes to play it safe, or should I just top them up ? Brakes feel great as ever so I'm thinking a top up.

Fluid, if it matters, is rbf600 put in during late august.

Forget the searches, look in your manual. That light is also for brake related problems, the most likely by a mile being low brake fluid level. And as you have said its near the minimum mark.

As you already know you have RBF600 in there just top up with that to the max level. Simples.

You can't change the caliper without putting in new fluid and bleeding the system etc. So if Honda did it, and you didn't supply some fluid, then it won't be RBF600 you have.

Why is the fluid low? The level drops when the brake pads wear out, the idea being that the light comes on when you need new pads. Just topping up the resevoir to make the light go away isn't a good answer.

So check your pads, and check for leaks too in case that's the reason.

Top the fluid up, check for leaks and pad wear and away you go.

If the level is on the min limit, the light comes on when you brake and goes off again when you accelerate.

As above, top up and check for leaks. (Not easy when it's dark most of the time)

Pads 110% are like new. Ds2500's went on in may and I've only done about 3000 miles and no track days.

I'm going to top up and check for leaks tomorrow and see how I get on.

Make sure the strainer/cover under the reservior cap is the right way about.

It can be fitted 180 degrees out and will foul up the level sensor.
