Default Another Rotrex C38-81 Install

First of all I am new to the FI forum, so hello

I see from the recent threads that the use of the C38-81 in the US limited to a few DIY pioneers, so thought you may like to see how my C38-81 install goes. I’m UK based, so we are lucky to have the TTS Performance off the shelf kit available. My car is going to TTS tomorrow for the fitting and the tuning, I have a 2006 Drive by wire version, so will be getting a FlashPro on top of the supercharger kit. I’ll collect the car a week later, and be able to show you the result.

I wont be able to wow you with huge figures, as I will be asking for a restricted set up, which can be done both by blow-off/bypass and by using the FlashPro to limit the throttle position on WOT. Funnily enough asking for less power is more of a challenge for TTS, as this kit will easily produce 75% more power, but I want to leave the car stock, and I want reliability as will do 10K miles a year. My goal is to get lots of lower rev torque with this big blower, and to cap the peak power in Vtec, don’t want much over 300 horse power at the wheels.

Have been considering a supercharger for about a year now, we too have the Comptech and Vortech option, but there are elements of both systems that I didn’t like. In the UK the Rotrex option has been steadily gaining popularity, and I think its fair to say that for new installs its definitely peoples first choice. Biggest reason for this is the work TTS have done in developing the kit for use on the S2000. Now probably about 3 years in the making there are plenty of examples of reliable kits out there, and unlike in the US where TTS is just a name, over here they are an active member of the S2000 community, well known and trusted. I also think the Rotrex charger and oil system is the neatest solution available, so for me the choice was simple. It’s a very tempting package and is luring more and more “non-enthusiast” buyers like me into the FI world, who just want hassle free power.

Obviously the target market is a lot smaller in the UK, there are very few looking to realize the full power of this kit, be good to see more people in the US experiment with it. From what I can see it compares well to the SOS, KW, Vortech etc, you could have a fully engineered kit for $5250, might need to check that the mounting points for the bracket are the same on an F22C as the F20C.

Anyway, looking forward to the extra power, next week will be a long wait!

In for all these C38-81 installs, 2010 is the year for the supercharged S2k

Couldn't agree more... after being driven in my friend's GP Mini I have kind of changed my mind about the supercharger, and depending on the figures/output line I may just SC it instead!!

Gavin:

Jealous and thanks for the info! I wanted to visit TTS this summer but my travel plans where altered here at work. I am pretty sure that Richard would have a niche market over here since KW doesn't want to pursue the C38 but for me right now, the exchange rate and already owning a kw kit sorta put me out to dry.

Spot on mate, you kept this quiet

Your probably doing the right thing power wise without upgrading other bits like the clutch etc.

Let us know how it goes.

I will tell you this you'll want more boost sooner or later .

No it is the Stage 2, eg its the C38 along with the bigger injectors, fuel pump, after-cooler etc. Now that TTS have standardised on the C38, the boundaries of the "Stages" aren't really there as such, its just down to the map and any boost restriction, or even a smaller/larger pully. Ideally I want 300 wheel HP, but most likely it will end up being a little more than that in order to improve the efficiency, functionality etc. I'll know a lot more after speaking to Richard in the morning.

.... once i'd been bidding on the kit at the Megameet, it was just a matter of time.

Best thing is I've never even had a ride in the supercharged S, so it will be awesome the first time I get the car back.

Have kept it quiet, but will post all about it in the UK forum once its all installed.

Gavin:

If you can, post a pic of this "restrictor". I have never seen one on a Rotrex system...
