Default Brake Master Cylinder Float Sensor

The white floating sensor seems to keep going down which trips the BRAKE light, even though the fluid is near max and the pads have plenty of life. I'm not taking any hard corners either, just normal driving. I'll raise the sensor so the light turns off, but lately it's been coming back a few drives later. The brake fluid is fairly new ( < 8,000 miles). When I brake it sounds like something is rubbing (only while braking), and sometimes when I come to a complete stop it sounds almost like it's creaking. But from what I can see the rotors and pads are in great shape (I'm no brake expert though). Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

The float sensor knows nothing about the condition of brake pads.rotors or calipers. It reads fluid level only. So,if your getting an intermittnet low level light you either one: intermittently have low fluid in reservoir ,which is unlikely ....or two: have a defective level sensor. If you have to raise it back up it's not doing its job.

That said..If you are experiencing a rubbing noise while braking ,you have either pad, caliper,or rotor issues or any combination thereof. Did you actually remove the wheels and closely inspect each brake unit?

The float is known to go bad sometimes and not float anymore. You can try to find another one at a junkyard or something.

Or, pull the sensor cable and just check the brake fluid level when you check your other fluids. Mine broke 10k miles ago and I just unplugged the sensor to get rid of the warning.

Any update on this topic? I don't want to spend the money on a new master cylinder if I can find a new float sensor.
