Decided to turbo the S2000..
Hey y'all,
I'm going to apologize in advance for this being an essay length of a post and I might even seem stupid to most and that is because I know absolutely nothing about boosting a car. So pretty much what I'm trying to do is run a small turbo and low psi setting on a stock S2K F20c motor. I need some help. First off I'm wondering if I'll be ok handling an 8psi or even 6psi from the turbo on a stock engine? And if so do I need to get an upgraded EMS like the ultimate? If so I'm starting to piece together a turbo kit from parts on eBay (I really don't want to spend 3000 to 5000 on a turbo kit). Me knowing nothing about a turbo kit I'll need some real tech support on this. So far the parts list I've acquired is this:
- Intercooler and Piping off DPTmotorsport on ebay (Black Intercooler with Red Piping)
(Dimensions 27" X 5.5" X 2.5"# Inlet size is 2.5 inches)
(Piping include: (2) 90 degrees pipes, (2) 45 degrees pipes, (2) straight pipes, (2) 180 degrees U-bent pipes)
-HKS SSQV BOV
-Rev Hard T3 Cast Turbo Manifold
-Godspeed T3/T4 Turbo .63 exhaust trim
Will the parts I have so far even match up? I've been looking at the specs for all the parts and most of the flanges are a T3 so I'm hoping they will. Would anyone tell me what else I should need. I will greatly appreciate any help in this. I know there are a few more things left for me to make this a complete kit, and I would really like to piece this kit together. I live in the Upstate of South Carolina so if anyone around here is local and would care to help out, I will make sure this won't be a waste of your time. I had a few numbers of some people but I had to get a new phone. Anyways I'm getting off topic, so pretty much I want to boost my stock F20c engine with a low psi boost (about 6-8) if yall think it will be safe. I'm trying to keep all parts for this kit under $1500 dollars and then I will trailer the car to get tuned somewhere. If there is anyone out there that knows how to properly and safely boost a car, please help

You can post this in the FI section but all your gonna get is flamed. Just finished up my own pieced together kit and let me say this your still gonna spend 5k. There just isn't any way around it. The universal intercooler and piping kits take a lot of fab work to make fit, you're gonna find that you need extra couplers, clamps, etc. Don't waste your money on the emanage either its junk. Get a aem or Flashpro if you're 06+. Trust me I spent months scouring ebay and other sites like treadstone and silicone intakes trying to get all the parts I needed and after all is said and done im at a little under 5k. Now thats everything from guages to tuning to exhaust/downpipe etc. I'm a professional mechanic by trade and also have lots of fabrication experience so I saved lots of money making my own downpipe, dumptube, charge piping, etc. That price also included having evans etune the flashpro, if your gonna have someone dyno tune it that'll be another 5-7oo. Trust me on this, there aint no cheap FI for these cars. If you get out under 5 you've def. done something bro.Good Luck with your quest. Its worth it in the end. By the way i'm located in Greenville Sc if you wanna check out my setup or just want a little help with your stuff pm me. I'll be more than happy to help any way I can.
when this is moved to the f/i section it will be flamed like crazy
. people on this site love to do the whole you should have searched this topic blah blah blah. these motors are safe to about 14 psi. there are a lot of things that are still needed. I sent you a pm earlier but i was on my phone so I had to end the message. just off the top of my head: downpipe, dumptube, wastegate, oil filter relocator, injectors (for your boost level 550-750) boost controller, clamps, couplings, oil feed line, oil return line, need to have your oil pan tapped, some form of fuel management (ems or an fmu and a vafc 2 or afc neo), boost gauge, intake tube and filter for turbo, some vacuum lines, get a new exhaust manifold gasket and a t/3 turbo gasket and an oil return gasket if you don't already have them.
pay attention to the forced induction for sale section (in my opinion it is better to buy decent condition used items than to buy some cheap quality crap)
I use treadstoneperformance to order a lot of my random things (decent prices and very fast shipping) http://www.treadstoneperformance.com/index.phtml
if you have any questions feel free to pm me.

I would agree, but the Greddy can't flow very much. It's tapped at just over 300whp on a dynojet. It's not about boost, it's about getting air into the motor and the Greddy kit can't do it. It'll be a rocket in the low and midrange, but run out of steam up high. Theories are that it only has T25 flanges.
But...you can find used ones in the $3K area, maybe less. It is the cheapest way to get FI on this car, though. You'll need to buy a new manifold, because the Greddy one will break.
To the OP...your goal of FI for under $1.5K is just not feasible, even if you do your own work. It's not even a little not feasible, it's get laughed at/flamed crazy. Heck, a wideband O2 sensor and tuning are half of that and any halfway decent fuel control is the other half. Then you have injectors at $400+ and we haven't even gotten to the turbo/downpipe/manifold/piping/couplers/intercooler/oil routing/BOV/fabrication! There are many who have gone down the road that you have, and all they did is a few runs and popped their motor or worse (FIRE). IMO you need $3K+ in cash above what you will spend on the parts/install for any surprises...so if you don't have $6K+ in cash (assuming used parts) I would drop this idea right now.
I added a supercharger to my car (SOS Stage 1). I decided to go new as there aren't a lot of used SOS kits and I didn't feel like going on a scavenger hunt. I spent about $5K on the kit. I installed it myself, but after buying a wideband, boost guage, OBD scanner, other misc parts, and some dyno tuning it hit close to $6K. But, for that I do have a car that should be stupid reliable that makes over 300wph on a *mustang* dyno.
Further advice is to learn really anything you can about boosting the car...before you boost the car and before you buy parts. Avoid crap ebay parts...you may wind up with a chinese cloned turbo that could spew oil on your first acceleration run, ruining your motor. Or an intercooler that can't flow through half its fins.

Piecing together a kit from scratch will most likely cost you twice as much because of all the $hit you're gonna end up buying twice cause you either didn't like what you got the first time, or it didn't work like it was supposed to. You'll spend two - three times the amount of time trying to get it all together & working.....then still have a list of problems & conflicts a mile long..!
Given that you have a self proclaimed lump-sum knowledge of "0....don't know sQuat about turbo builds"....the likelyhood for success drops even lower.
Two suggestions:
1. If you plan on sticking with only 6 - 8 lbs of boost....Buy a used super charger kit, bolt it on and forget about it (other than reg maintenance)
2. Save you cash, do your research, and buy a well thought out kit that fits your needs, by both you & the kit manufacturer, with instructions, a warranty, customer support, and parts that were at least meant / tested to all work together.
Either way good luck....let us know how it goes

you'll want more for sure. $5k won't be enough to properly turbo an s2k. if you want the best easiest way buy the Ptuning kit and have it tuned. you'll spend $7-8k after clutch and tune and your car will be very reliable and shouldn't have any issues. Pfab makes an excellent kit as well but there's tons of relocating you'll have to do. Not everyone wants to wire tuck and move everything for a turbo kit
