Has some of your induction kit pipework come adrift and got tangled in or is banging off the pulleys?

 

Have you checked that your brake pads are not worn down to the 'shriek' post, which would give a similar sound?

 

I haven't checked, but would be more than a bit surprised as I had brakes and discs replaced at last service in April.
Edit - also is not confined to braking.

 

Could be rear pads then maybe

 

Update - had a chance to look at this with a mechanically minded pal.
Noise sounds like a missed gear change in terms of mechanical grind, and appears to happen on over run.
Car has been jacked up and there doesn't appear to be anything fouling the propshaft, and the clutch action is smooth.
Looks like I need to get it into TGM with a focus on gearbox or diff.

Any ideas/suggestions welcome - if we have time before I leave for JAE (not in the S I hasten to add) we may try to check the gearbox for swarf.
