scariest night of my life
The storm surge was incredible.
I spent days preparing. Moved all the s2ks and important items to another town. I rode out the storm, wind was not too bad As I am low lying...the water starting coming down the street, and raising up. Got in my wagon and drove it to higher ground.
Walked back to my house, waist deep in water. I had everything I own (tire machine, balancer, equipment) suspended from a steel beam as the surge put my entire property under water. I manned the generator and pumps I set up over the weekend and pulled an all nighter fighting the rising water.
Watching the water rush around both sides of the house, turning my entire neighborhood into a lake.
the work paid off, I managed to come out completely unscathed, and save all my stuff. The fire department drove door to door demanding evauation, but I knew the guy on the truck and he just waved and said good luck as he knew I was not leaving. Preparedness was everything. Pretty much everyone did not take the precautions i did, and they are now without a furnace, hot water, or electricity, or a car. I even told a neighbor their car would not survive in their driveway, and they chose not to listen. their car is now a total loss.
I just got home. I spent the entire day with my generator and pumps helping others. I spent all day cutting trees off power lines of the neighborhood with my rope equipment and chainsaw. Pumped out a few basements, even hot wired some furnaces to get them running and dry them out.
I will continue tomorrow to volunteer...
