Power from underhood fuse box
Posted in the electronics forum but no one's answering. Thought I'd check here.
I'm wiring up a http://www.mylaps.com/index.php/us_eng/Websites/B2C/car/products/direct_power)]AMB race transponder[/URL] (Power consumption: 12 v DC / <12 mA, says to connect 10 - 30 VDC). I'm mounting it on the front of the car on that center beam in front of the radiator and I need to draw power from the engine bay. Is there someplace in the under-hood fuse box(es) to do this from? I would want it on only and whenever the car is running. I've heard some people just run the wire to an existing fuse, but I'm not sure if this is the best/right/safest way or just the easiest. I'd rather do it right while I'm doing it.
The car is a 2008 CR without a/c or radio, so my fuse diagram is a bit different (08's are a bit different and CR's without a/c or radio or soft top obviously aren't using some fuses).
Thanks for the help

If it's only to power one circuit, use one of these:
They come in a few different sizes depending on the physical size fuse you're using them with.
You could always use a full-on accessory fuse block but that makes no sense if you're really only looking at the one circuit

I got that one at Pep Boys; I bet Autozone has them too. Made by Littelfuse, should be commonly available.
I don't recall what sizes the fuses are in the under hood fuse box on the S2K but they're bound to be ATO or Mini and the add-a-circuit is available in both form factors.
As far as what circuit to tap, 19 may not have anything wired to it if it's marked not used. I'd use something that's switched with the ignition regardless of which one you pick. The draw is pretty miniscule at <12ma but it's still a good idea not to leave anything running all the time.
Worst case scenario you can tap an ignition activated circuit under the dash and bring a small power wire forward under the hood through the firewall. It's been a long time since I messed around with an S2000 so I'm sorry I can't get more specific as to where you can grab power.

You do know that there is an open "lug" on the fuse box inside the car that will meet your requirements?

You can tap into #6 or #7 for a switched circuit. Just know that you'll be running on the same fuse as your 12v cigarette lighter so don't overload that.
I have a bunch of things tapped into the cabin box: yellow box, water temp fix, racelogic, racelogic display, aftercooler water pump. The ACC circuit is usually the one I prefer. I'd imagine the under-hood box would be the same.
