On a side note I will head to Pittsburgh after but sadly it will be during the summer and there won't be any steelers games to go to:

ehhhh. what if you get a flat tyre somwhere in the middle of bat country?
If you're really packing a lot of stuff leave the luggage at home and use the trunk as a giant suitcase.
If you need ear plugs blame your aftermarket exhaust.

I won't give up the spare tire on any trip. I've been driving far to long to know that you never know when you'll get a flat. I also pack that compact air pump and guage that goes with it. You can learn to pack for a week's worth of clothing in a 21" or 22" carry-on bag, and two of those will fit in the trunk without sacrificing the tools or the tray cover. With the right clothes, you can pack for a week and do a little laundry in a hotel room sink, with clothing drying overnight on a portable clothes line, with the possibility of traveling for weeks or months at a time. With those two bags in the trunk, there is room for additional storage at each corner of the trunk. I have made several week and two-week trips in the S this way.
If you wanted to camp, used soft-sided or duffle bags and you should be able to fit luggage for two and the camping gear listed below. I too, have a Surco rack and have used it to carry folding beach chairs on a week-long trip to the west coast. The two links in this post offer more information and packing tips for traveling light (and small).
