Autocross March 26-Saturday
It's that time again: the March 26 local SCCA Auto-cross will be at Phoenix International Raceway, South of Avondale and the Gila River. The local auto-crosses are now so well attended that there are very few walk-up signups available. So if you want to run, you need to sign up on-line. http://www.azsolo2.com/ If you sign up please make sure you show up. No-shows at the auto-cross are a big no-no, because the no-shows wreak havoc with the scheduling of workers, the run group order, and the pre-built scoreboard.
The A run group starts at 0900, so if you're running in the morning, you need to arrive at the track around 0700 for car setup, tech inspection, and course-walking. I'll be running in the stock class for the MY 01 S2000 which is now AS. AS will be running in the A run group, so that means I'll be driving the course around 9:00 AM. I plan on getting to the track around 7:00 AM to set up the car and walk the course. If you catch an afternoon run group, then you don't have to show up till around 11:30 AM.
There's no shade at PIR, so come prepared with sunscreen, shade/hat, water/softdrinks. The SCCA usually gets a roach coach to show up for food and beverages, but don't count on it.
Here's a link to all the details, directions, and registration. http://www.azsolo2.com/
Note that there's a driver's school the following week on Saturday April 2 at PIR. You need to download the forms at the site listed above and mail in the registration ASAP. The driver's schools are well attended and highly recommended. During last December's driver's school I probably got 15 runs and some excellent instruction from one of the top S2000 autocross drivers in the country. The next day is another competitive autocross at the same site. If you're in for some serious fun, you need to get your butt out to PIR April 2 and 3. Alas I can't go, as I'll be working both of those days. They would probably not let me attend now anyway since my times are starting to get pretty good.
Here's directions to PIR:
I-10 (West of both I-17 and West Loop 101) take exit 131 (it used to be called 115th Avenue, it is still 115th Ave, but Avondale changed the name). Take Avondale Blvd South all the way to PIR, go to the gate 5. Here's a map of PIR with the auto-cross area highlighted:
The road racers use Gate 8, the 1st gate you come to. This is also the gate used to get to the infield for food, arm bands MUST be worn and shown for entry.

Interested drivers,
Rumor is, that the signups for this event are a little light. The local SCCA is guaranteeing 4 runs and now you can sign up for extra time only runs at the end of the day. I'm running early and plan on making it over to the Science of Speed open house in the early afternoon.
