Fun In The Sun Planning Thread

I agree it probably should be addressed. I have been holding myself back from replying to lots of comments on this thread, mainly because I dont see this event ever happening if the thread is overwhelmed with this new vs. old argument. If people from out of state come in and read this stuff, I would imagine it could discourage people from wanting to attend. But thats just me...
but i must say a couple of things, the "old skool" guys did help, they provided us with the agenda, the pics, the idea etc. But they wanted us to have our own sort of meet, not just follow their footsteps and repeat what they did. I obviously wasn't here when the whole "turf war" started, but I will say this now. ANYONE who wants to help, please do, but don't discourage anyone else of helping (or not)

In a way I am tempted to start a new website/message board because of the continous friction that comes up. It seems those controlling things are never around and no longer participate in anything we plan or discuss. There have been meets and drives almost every month (if not more) and people try their hardest to get people involved. Yet those that do not show, still hold the moderation of this board.
That is mainly why we "old guys" have stepped back. We wanted to see some new blood come and take the reigns. Have a great time! Work hard and this can be the best club on the board!
There is no "turf war". As you can tell from MOST of the old guy posts, we just want to hang back and we can help when needed. I still am on the board every day and moderate the forums (doesn't mean I have to come to meets or organize things to keep order on the forum). There are a couple of guys that like to "stir things up" sometimes, but they are harmless and you have to see them as that.
Good luck with the planning. Let's not get into a high school bickering contest and move along with things.

superstition honda wants to host., everyone is loving the idea, they just have to meet with the GM on friday about it. anything else about how long we would be there, what we would do there, how many lifts we would need. they would like to do a sponsorship, as well as offer services for a reduced rate that day. i told them to only supply the grill, we will supply hot dogs and burgers, i only said we needed one lift so people could look under the cars, and check out anything under the car if they wanted to. if i missed anything, let me know. i also mentioned around 70 cars will be there. i need any other info about time span and the otherwise before friday if i missed anything, so they can present it to the GM. i was thinking we could add them with a phone number on the t-shirts as a little extra incentive. whacha think?
Let's see if we can get more than just 1 lift. Even if only 10-15 cars want to get up on the lift, that's probably going to run a good couple hours just in cars going on and off the lift.
I suggest letting them know that it will be the afternoon from 12/1 till 4/5.
Fri night would have a dinner/get together, maybe a party for those that are interested.
Sat morning would be whatever drives/autoX for those that are interested. The drives end at Superstition Honda around 12/1 for the bbq. AutoX would end and parade over for approx the same time. Have the GM from Superstition Honda give a welcome speech, if they have an S2000 tech, let him introduce himself, etc. Follow that with food, lifts, mini-tech type stuff - fluid changes, alignments, etc (discuss with Superstition special meet discounts, make sure people know the tech bits are extra) A parade from the bbq to whatever restaurant is decided on for dinner. Following that could be excursions out to whatever club everyone wants to go to or whatever evening activity you guys decide on.
Sun morning breakfast/brunch for those that want to attend. If enough people are still around (or interested in staying for it), there could be a Sun morning drive or pool party at Kirk's, whichever
Just my $0.02...
I nominate Skibum to organize the autoX event. Simmy to handle T-shirt designs. Ivan to find evening activities and set up a registration on the new AZ website. Wade/Simmy/Kirk to find drive routes.
Someone needs to step up and manage registration - both funds, lists, sending out registration emails, and setup how to check registration at the gate on event day.
If you do the multiple routes like I've suggested, then you'll need at least one AZ peep for each group willing to lead. He/She'll need a co-pilot (passenger) to manage phone/radio comm while on the drive. All group leaders need the cell #'s of all other group leaders, +radio, etc. I also recommend having an AZ S at the rear of each group to pick up stragglers and keep the lead informed of any problems with cars in the group (a la 4WHLBKE).
Make it an S exclusive meet if you'd like, or allow S2KI members no matter their ride - up to you guys, just make sure that you have a registration process that involves receiving an email address so you can email a registration letter for access to the event.

i think sunday miorning a canyon lake breakfast... haha! i will see how many more lifts we can get, they are already discussing reduced rate services for the s2000's that day. nothing major of course. just fluids and alignments. any other small things as well. like wiper blades or tires.
i will see how many lifts we can get. most likely a few.
jason is THEE s2000 guy at superstition springs honda. he will be there of course giving tips on what to look for, and helping us out on anything else service related while he takes care of us.
chris is THEE guy for s2000's. he recently sold his own, which he drove to the homecoming. he had a bit more done to it than most of this site. if anyone knows s2000 parts, its this guy.
any ideas about a dj so we can jam out like at the homecoming?
as far as registration stuff i think that should all go through the new website. it will make it easier, and not so personal. Ivan, how soon could we expect this? and what might the e-mail be for sending money? that kind of stuff

My only suggestion would be to keep the drives to a minimum (distance wise). Some people are going to be driving 2-400+ miles just to get here, not to mention the drive back. You might not want to add on another 350 miles just for a drive. Especially if you do a sat morning drive and something on sunday
Thats my .02
