Default Has anyone ever...

I noticed that the plastic roll bar shrouds have separated on the drivers side. No big deal, nothing a little glue can't fix. Then I wondered what was under it, so I took a peak. Looks like black painted steel bars! Has anyone ever cut away the plastic shroud and maybe polished up the stock bars? What do you guys think?

I have indeed. Here is a close up with kinda dark lighting. This is when I removed the sofftop completely. Even with the top in place, you can see that right underneath each roll hoop is the pretensioner system for the seatbelts. One pink, one blue. IMHO, if you found out a way to tastefully (and safely) cover those up, the exposed roll bars look pretty damn good!

those do look pretty good, I was thinking about just cutting away the hoop portion and leaving the rest of the plastic. Would need to fill the gaps with something but im sure i could figure it out. Would look really cool with a brushed or polished finish. Are those things welded or bolted in?

By the way.. how did you like having a mini truck bed? LOL... the El 2000

FYI-make sure you really wanna go forward with having exposed roll bars before you remove the plastic cuz you can't put it back on. Unless you want to ghetto fab it that is.

the rollbars are partly bolted in, and I think partly welded in at the base. I don't think it would be a simple removal at all.

meh, it didnt make any difference to me, since I had put on the hardtop near permanently.

it was nice having an extra shelf to put stuff tho!
