Default Phoenix International Raceway Track Event

Hey guys,

I know that a couple of you are going to Firebird on the 1-3 of March, but there is also a track event at PIR on the 2nd and 3rd.

It is with ASRA and the BMW & NSX clubs will be there. I am most likely going to head out there.

For those of you who have not driven on PIR... It is a little more technical that Firebird, but it is well worth it. Check out the website for more info.

www.azsportsracing.org

If you have any questions about the track or the event let me know. I have driven on PIR quite a few times.

I think I may join you. I've heard the track surface is in much better shape than Firebird.

I just checked out the AZ S2000 web site and it looks great. As an FYI for the PIR track event... They have a road coarse inside of the oval. I think that there are 11 turns in all, and it uses part of the oval. The web site only showed a picture of the oval.

Just wanted to let you guys know, in case you were worried that you would only get to turn left.

Hey guys,

The track event was great. The class session was in the morning, an instructor was in the car for the two morning sessions. Then in the afternoon I was out there with the general street group. I tell ya, that is a great track to drive on, and everybody out there was very curtious. I love the "check your attitude at the door" feeling. Everybody is out there just to have a good time.

I did see a Ferarri 550 get black flagged for an illegal pass, and a couple cars did spin, but other than that there were no major accidents.

There is another event on the 30th of this month at PIR. I will probably go again. I like taking the Driving School because I really get a lot out of having the instructor in the car. I will probably do the class again if anyone is interested in going.

I saw one White S2000 out there, but I don't know who it was.

By the way, can anyone reccomend a good place to buy a helmet? I need to get a new one and want some input on where to go and how much I should expect to pay.

Thanks,

Hey, Adam,

What do they charge for the driving school? Is this an ASRA event? I missed driving at Firebird last weekend, so I might go out for PIR.

For helmets, I recommend Bulletproof (a site sponsor). Ben and Schatten are good guys and have excellent prices. If you want SA2000 certification, you can pay from $200 to $350, depending on whether you want open face or closed face, the styling, etc. I have a Simpson Voyager N that I like a lot (big viewport for sunglasses), Birdie has a Bieffe Predator (very lightweight) and some of the other guys have Bieffe F1's, too.

My 2 cents: after you measure your head, round up a size.

Yup it is an ASRA event. Membership is $40 per year and then the driving school is $160. If you go back after that for any other events the general street session is $130.

Thanks for the info on the helmets. Did you order on-line or did you buy it locally?

Adam,
Everyone I know bought them online. Two guys had a sizing problem, though, so it might be a good idea to try on helmets locally before ordering. Drop Schatten a PM and he can help you out.
