I would recommend just going for a 997 GT3. The RS is nice but really not worth stretching the wallet for. There are several low mileage 997s on cars.com.

z06 or an m3. Be sure to get an extended warranty on the m though, I love BMW but they tend to have a lot of problems, I know first hand

Yeah, not big person friendly!

I have to agree with G on the NSX

$25k - $30k for a good looking NSX
$25k for engine build, twin turbo kit, and a clutch. 650whp smoking exotics ALL day long with Honda reliability!

$23k for engine build, twin turbo kit, and a clutch. 600whp smoking exotics ALL day long with Honda reliability!

How reliable is a twin turbo 600hp NSX? I'd imagine like every other Honda as soon as you go down that forced induction path your sacrificing a good deal or reliability and worry free maintenance, but you get to be a Rockstar in return of those things.

Are decent NSX's in the $25-30k range now? If so do you really want to spend that kind of money on a 20+ year old car? I love NSX's but that seems foolish. If the car you're buying is just a stepping stone to a GT3 RS why not just buy another CR/S2000 for 20k or so. Leave it stock and then you're 20k closer to the car you really want.

I'm with the other guy though, if you have the cash just pick up a normal GT3. I love the way they look more than the RS/RS-R variants.

Well if you are considering a Caterham I would definitely look into an Ariel Atom or perhaps the slightly more DD-able Lotus Exige.

I instructed in an Atom at an autocross last summer. The driver wanted me to point out where to go, but the car accelerates so hard that the force of the wind hitting you and the G-forces make it difficult to keep your arm raised.

Also things like the Rossion Q1 could be an option

Or a Noble M12

What about a cts-v? Plenty of power and smooth ride.

M3 is within the price range initially, sure, but the maintenance costs will kill you... Regular GT3 would be a great choice, as would the Exige. The Vettes you're sacrificing some overall quality on finishes, etc... but they are rounding into a nice sports car as far as speed, handling, braking. I haven't driven one of the newer ones yet, but the previous generation wasn't bad. An NSX would be a nice choice IF you can find a good CLEAN one somewhere. I think you should prioritize your want list of the following: Speed, handling, comfort, fuel economy, maintenance hassle/cost, styling, permagrin factor... Then go drive some cars. That will help you to narrow down your list.

I would rather get 335i coupe. you can easily tune it and make it a sleeper car and still beat a m3....

a friend of mine got a 335i and put juice box in it. car has 400HP and you can easily change the settings
