Default Question on colored lug nuts

I know that some manufactures make different colored lug nuts for aftermarket wheels. Some are annodized but I thought that some were also powdered but not sure.

The place where I had my wheels powdered is coating one of my lug nuts white free of charge as a sample to see how it holds and looks. I'm guessing it might not but worth the try.

Does someone know offhand how the aftermarket colored lugs keep their color so well? Are they dipped in some other material to keep them from chipping ?

Thanks,

I don't see how anything painted would hold together when 80lb/ft of pure scratching power is applied to it

Even anodized scratches off eventually. The burned titanium look seems to be holding 100% though.

My old Muteki open ended lugs are more chrome than red now, I think they are anodized but I'm not sure. I just put on a set of black Muteki closed ended ones, we'll see how they hold up.

Snap-On, Matco, etc all make sockets with a plstic inside that protects lugnuts. So you can apply an even amount of pressure, and still protect. The only place that would probably even use it is WSI though. Hit them up

Remember 98% of aftermarket lugs will only work with aftermarket wheels!! The ball seat is different between aftermarket and OEM!

Also remember if you powdercoat the lugnut the 3/4 -19mm size will probably not work anymore as now the lug will be oversized.

Also remember if you paint them, after you remove them once or twice they will become chipped and distorted in color and finish.

Also remember to have your pets spade or neutered!!

I'd like to own a 19 and a 17 of those.

Couldn't find it on the SnapOn website.

If you must have something different, buy OEM CR lugs. They are black, which imo, would look the best on your red wheels. Painting OEMs will not hold up at all.

Hmm that sounds like a good option.

So here is the final result. Not an "Epic Fail" but clearly you can see the scuffs.

Maybe the plastic covers would help not sure though with 80lbs of torque.
