Default Weekend drives?

So I'm pretty new to Phoenix still, moved here in late October and bought my S in November. One of the things I always said I wanted to do with the car was actually get up at a decent hour on a weekend (lol) and take it for a drive somewhere nice.

When I was down in Tucson during college a few years ago before moving back to CA, there was always Mt. Lemmon or anything near the Catalinas, etc. Is there anything like that in the Phoenix area? And do any groups or anybody ever get together to do anything like this?

There are several options:

1. Canyon lake run (out the 60 to the 88 and north)
2. Mingus Mountain (up the 17 to Prescott and then to the 89A over the mountain into Jerome
3. Another decent route is to go out the Beeline (87) to Payson, then take the 260 over to the 17 and back to town.
4. 89A from Sedona to Flagstaff is wonderful, but to park along the road you need a permit.
5. I don't know if it can be done in one day, but the Highway 191 from Morenci to Alpine is supposed to be carving heaven. I'm going to try that one in April, but staying overnight in Alpine to split up the trip.

The East Side group and possibly some others are doing a Canyon Lake run next Wed nite - check the thread.
The Tucson group is doing a Mt Lemmon run on Saturday at 11am if you feel like re-living that with some other S2Ks.

Don't forget that Hwy 89 North really starts to get fun as far south as Congress...

Take Hwy 60 west to Hwy 89 North.........

89 will take you all the way to Flagstaff...Awesome drive up and you can take the 17 home..

what side of the valley. we also had a good drive planned for fun in the sun that we couldn't use.

87 up towards payson, a couple miles before rye, take a right onto 188, by jakes corner, towards globe. then just take the 60 back towards phoenix. total drive time is close to 3 hours, less if spiritedly
