HELP!!! Cannot VTEC!
Okay, I think I have a problem. Just last weekend, I tried to VTEC several times and the rpm hesitated badly near the 6000 mark
Below this range the engine and driving felt perfectly normal.
As soon as I tried to make the car purr beyond 6000 rpm, the engine stutters and I cannot get the ooomppf I needed. The car jerked violently and repeatedly (or as long as my foot is hard on the gas). Ultimately, I had to lift my foot off the accelerator pedal to avoid embarrassing myself further or risk further damage to the car's engine mechanics. I can only say that this happened in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. It does not matter whether I am going up or down though the gears. The car simply will not go into the Vtec realm.
Could it be the worn out clutch? Fuel supply issue? Anything else???...Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds terrible. I assume the engine is fully warmed up (3 bars).
Could be fuel I guess but I doubt it's clutch as in that case I think you'd get into VTEC all the time but just not make much progress, unless it's biting sporadically which would be wierd. Or maybe clogged air filter? But both of these would manifest themselves all through the rev range I would have thought. UK forum people might have more ideas, but in any case you'd better get it checked out.
All I can say is you better get it fixed before the supermeet!

It could be one of the sensors in the intake. I am sure I read that if one of them screws up, it won't let you VTEC, which I guess would give you that same feeling ...... I think a trip to Mr Honda will be necessary Vincent
I would go along with James comment on the sensor,
I think the engine management looks after the car by disabling the 2nd cam - to limit the horsepower - but the car should still continue reving above 6000 without VTEC cam lobe engaged - just would not feel as powerful
I'm pretty sure if they hook the engine up to one of the diagnostic things it will come up with some error code straight away and they will find the fault pretty quickly. If there was anything serious you would have the engine light flashing away.

I doubt it is the sensor, I doubt it is a clutch problem. Please verify that you had THREE BARS - the car needs to be warmed up, so the oil temperature and oil pressure is there, or else you will hit, what is known as "the brick wall" at 6000 rpms.
IF it was a sensor, and you were unable to actually vtec- then it would still go over 6000 rpms but the cam lobe would not hit the vtec profile.

Thanks for the comments. I should have the car in for the first "shaken"= service, repair and inspection in another weeks time. I will update you on what Honda found.Currently, the motor is still running and now the symptoms occur around 5000 rpm (with three bars). Could anyone suggest reasons for the violent jerking as I approach this rpm range? As the power engages, it stops abruptly and feels similar when hitting the rev or speed limiter and keeps doing this until the rpms drop below 4000.
There's no way I can even pass the 6000 rpm mark now no matter how hard I try.
On the up side, the 1-2 gear change on cold mornings has improved
I know, I know, enough chit chat. I'll get a Honda guy to fix it.

Update on the car repairs.
Well, my car passed the "shaken" and I can legally drive on the roads again.
All the tyres had to be replaced as they were just below the legal limit. I was shocked to learn how expensive the Bridgestone S02 are! Luckily, they had an unused show room set available and gave them to me for half the price.
They took the engine apart for inspection too. I guess Honda are collecting data on the wear and tear on this high revin'n beast (I have '00 model).
Some clutch plate springs??? were replaced. Can't be more specific that that. I am still on my first clutch at 30000 Kms.
The transmission oil change has greatly improved the 1st to 2nd shifting. Sweet.
Overall it feels brand new again................apart from well you've guess it, trying to VTEC.
I didn't push it hard at first. However, in the last couple of days, I decide it was time to really open her up. To my surprise the symptoms came back, but it was a lot less severe
Well, after the Christmas and New Year hols, I'll be back to the dealer to have this checked again. This time I will be there when they test drive the car.
