I would prefer to put a Mac Mini in the car rather then an iPad. Come to think of it, I have on old G4 Mac Mini sitting here doing nothing, hmmm ...

Only problem with a Mac Mini (and I have a spare Intel one) is a lack of decent nav software.

Is this an update to existing software or will you need to spend another 1k for a new iphone with this function?

Multitasking runs on 3GS (not 3G) and is free.

Thats great news - was the only thing the iphone really lacked. Although it would be good to save any email attachment to the phone without having to jailbreak.

More info here, it is actually a completely new OS release ...

http://www.apple.com/iphone/preview-iphone-os/

And it will run on 3G and 3GS.

Attachments can be opened in other apps therefore you should be able to save I guess!

Ok that just confuses matters.

Here's a summary:
New iPhone OS4 for all iPhone/iPod touch.
100 new features including multitasking.
but
Multitasking will only run on 3GS and iPod touch 3rd generation.
