can pigs catch you with a speed camera when they are driving
coming down from Centennial Avenue through Lane Cove tonightm, I thought there was a flash from a Cop coming the opposite direction.
Can cops catch you with a speed camera whilst driving in the opposite direction? Thought it would be dangerous to have "flashes" from infront...

How does it work, that cops can catch you for speeding when following you?
Would it be dependent on their speedo? I can't imagine they can use a radar while their car is moving too... sounds dodgy.

Damn computers!
But that is so dodgy given the new 3km/h tolerance rule.
It doesn't seem enforceable since cop cars are as subjected to speedo error as anyone else. I'm sure fluctuation in ambient and tyre temps alone amount to more than 3km/h.
Maybe the 3km/h rule is merely to scare ppl into remembering the speed limit is X km/h not X + 10%...

I always knew they could do it with a radar from a moving car...wasn't sure it was possible with a camera.
Also, I have never seen a stationary camera pick up from in front when I flash is required.

No they cannot! I will find the article referecing this law, but later:
Police are not allowed to take shots of the front of the car due to privacy issues. There is some law (as I said I will find this bugger) that states that you cannot have a face of the driver on the photo. Simple as that... and that ads are just bullshit.
They can get your speed coming from the other direction tho. Their laser unit (on the roof thing) is desiged to take their speed into account as they do yours. Of course the error margin SHOULD be greater... but I don't think that stands in the way of revenue.

No photos from infront.
As far as I know, no mobile speed cameras.
Speed tolerance is legally as low as 3Km but, as per usual, there is discretion. And if you remember the recent news story about all the fines being overturned because of Police car speedo error you'll realise that very few cops are dumb enough to cut it that close.
All that said, you realise there is a speed camera on that actual piece of road? Perhaps it was set off by somebody else and you just saw the flash.
Or maybe it was just someone who'd had a bad day and was getting even by standing by the side of the road with a flash unit scaring the bejeezus out of unsuspecting motorists.
I know that's how I like to spend my evenings.
