I posted this in the 'S2000 talk' foruem, but this is where I wanted to post it....

I compiled this list of lap times done at "Rundenzeit Hokenheim" track in Germany and there are 82 cars in the list. The testing was done by the German magazine "Sport Auto" by the same driver (Horst Von Saurma). Even though they were all done in the dry, they were not all done at the same time, hence same temperature/conditions. These times have been clocked over the last couple of years so they will only give you a guideline to where the cars 'fit' as sometimes they run some cars at two different occasions and the lap times differed by up to 1sec - in which case I took the best time.

btw, "Rundenzeit Hokenheim" track is a short track with the top speed for the S2000's being there about 170kph.

Anyway, see where the S2000 'fits' ... it's 24th in the list; though it's interesting seeng what cars are around it and ahead of it.

To be honest I am a little surprised by these times. S2000 after Z3 3.0? Didn't expect that. INtegra Type R so close to an STi ... also interesting. Is there somewhere I can see a pic of this track so I can get an idea of what the layout is?

S2000 after Z3 3.0? Didn't expect that.
------------------------
It's not a Z3 '3.0' but a "Z3 COUPE 3.0" ... you know, like an M-Coupe but with a 3.0l engine,. In the straighline it returns numbers very similar to the S2000 but it has 300Nm of torque so it has a much better low down pull. The "coupe" always handles better than the "convertible" - just look at the M-Roaster and M-Coupe lap time difference. This uses the same body.

Also, there's only 0.5sec difference so that's not that significant when you concider that they were tested on two different days ... it was also 5secs quicker than the S2000 at the Nurburgring (again different time/conditions). Either way, there wouldn't be much bettween them.

------------------------
Integra Type R so close to an STi
------------------------
True - but the TypeR is ment to revel on short twisty tracks ... no? Though, the STi should be closer to the EVO anyway - maybe it was too hot and the turbo was not really pumping out the power it should. I mentioned in the original post that some cars were tested there more than once at different occasions - well S2000 is one of them and returned 1:19.6 the 'other' day. Who knows, might be able to go even quicker ... which goes for any other car too.

Is there somewhere I can see a pic of this track so I can get an idea of what the layout is?
------------------------
Yeah, I have it here ... not only that but it has the S2000 and Exige speeds though each corner/straight. If you want I'll send it to you but I can't get to your e-mail though here.

Z3 3.0 - That explains it. That's a pretty damn fast car ... but for $200k+ I don't think so!
The ITR is very good on twisty tracks where the top speed is not an issue, but once again, I don't have a clue as to what the track looks like so I take it it's twisty

Thanks dude!

Not $200k :-) More like $90k if if was here as it costs in Europe exaclty the same as the Z3 3.0 (convertible). The M Coupe (with it's 236kW engine) costs 'only' $133k here. The Z3 Coupe 3.0 would cost about $15k more than an S2000 if it was here .... shame they don't import it as it seems like a very good perfromance car.

e-mail coming your way with the track layout and marked S2000's (and Boxster S's speeds).

Some interesting times among these, David. I'd have to say that driver familiarity with the car(s) would make a bit of difference considering tenths of a second count. No real surprises with the first few places but a few after that.

I'm a little surprised that the 996 was quicker than the E46M3 around that kind of track. Also M Coupe quicker than the E46M3? What?! I don't think BMW would appreciate that much!

I've driven the Maserati 3200 before. I did not like it at all. Lots of power but I never felt confident it wouldn't bite you.

The E55 being a second quicker than then CLK55?

911 is still quicker in the straightline (according to a few direct comparisions that I've read) - it usually is a few 10th ahead up to about 160kph. After that the M3 seems to catch up and be a few 10th quicker. And on a track 911s are hard to beat. Though, we're talking 0.5 sec so on a different day things could have been different. I've seen the two titted against each other on a different track (by EVO magazine) and they returned very similar lap times.

That does make sence. It's good 200kg lighter than M3 and even at Nurburgring it's just as fast as the new M3 (8:22). Though, again, we're taliking about 0.5sec here so concidering that the times were not done at the same time, I'd say that 0.5sec puts the two cars in the same league.

Hmm. That Audi RS4 didn't go to well either. Those things pull 0-100kph in well under 5 secs but only got slightly better than our s2k.
Probably don't have very good track tyes though I guess.
