Default Need new air pump! (?!?)

I've had the engine malfunction light start coming on a lot for the last 100ish Km's, there is no noticeable different in the way the car drives but I took it to a honda service centre anyway and they have told me that the problem is probably with my air pump and that it will cost me around $1086 to order a new one.

Does this sound like it could be the problem? is $1K too much for an air pump?

cheers,
Dave

Its hard to tell without looking at it.

Rather than raising the question "Is $1k too much for an air pump", I'd take db's advice and ask "Is a trip to another mechanic worth potentially saving $1k?" Where you at by the way? If in Vic, go to CRS Auto Service, if in NSW, go to Hanny's.

Joe:

download the s2k service manual here -> http://hondatech.info/downloads/Auto/Manuals/S2000/

the air pump controls the injection of air into the cylinders.

You shouldn't have much trouble picking up a secondhand pump for a handful of dollars.

I have one I don't use but was planning to keep it incase I ever go stock.

If you're in Sydney contact me and we'll work something out for a whole lot less than a grand.
