Default Picked up a DSLR on the w/e

This is also posted in the photography forum, but I know I'd like to show you guys neways.

taken with a 90-300mm tele lens, as I hate the 18-55.

We had a bbq on the weekend with some mates who are fellow Honda owners.

I think the pics are slightly "orangey", but over all they have a nice wrm fuzzy feel to them.

Now I've just got to learn how to use the 350D to best of its capabilities.

These are more of a trial set of pics, just seeing what the camera and lens can do for the first time. Not photoshopped, just resized and bordered.

BTW: The pics were taken up near Kelvin Grove in the forest somewhere @ some bbq spot in the bush.

Congrats on the purchase.

That's a good lens you have there.

With the "orangeyness" I'm guessing you have a UV filter on it? That can be fixed in post, or if you adjust the white balance in camera.

Practice shooting in RAW and using the RAW converter to produce your images. You'll be able to have more control over them that way. Think of RAW as the digital equivalent of a film negative.

Anyway, that's my 2cents. Congrats again .

no UV filter or PL filter has been purchased as of yet. Its on my "to do" list of camera related items. Along with a wide angle lens too.

I'm on the hunt for a new digital SLR camera and lenses and have spent the last couple of weeks pestering everybody in the business on the Canon 30D (shade under $2000 body only) or the Nikon 200D ($2200 body only)...had my heart set on the Canon and a couple of lenses including the f2.8 70-200 USM (not IS) till I had a good play around with both and the Nikon feels a lot sturdier but a couple of minor short comings....
Excellent comparison review.
Canon 30D or Nikon D200

The full Canon setup I want (body, 2 good lenses, 1.4 teleconverter, extra battery handgrip, flashgun etc) would come to around $6000 and the Nikon to around $8000
Can someone out there help me decide?...I can't

alot of people are in the same boat atm, they can't decide if they like the D200 or the 30D more.

I'd probably pick the Nikon, for unexplainable reasons which I can't explain. Probably because its just a bit newer etc?

Thanks ECS....friends who have had Nikons over the years seem to stay glued..mainly cos they have so much tied up in their Nikon lenses to swap brands.

Was surprised how sturdy the D200 felt....the main concern for 200D users seems to be the high ISO noise..but how often would you use 800+ ISO!

Check the December 2006 issue of PC World. Nikon D200 and a heap of others extensively tested. From memory, the D200 was editor's choice.

Thanks Muz...will track down a copy today...I think i've just about swung to the D200 and will go with some cheaper lenses to keep the cost down.

Why not wait?

I think there will be a new line up coming from Canon sooner rather than later.

The arrival of the 400D has put the 30D and 5D in limbo.

If it were me, I would wait, I would also not be considering the 30D. There's something brewing in the bowels of the Canon factory and it will smother the market like dia....ahem.
