Default RE002s - mini thoughts

Hi All -

Per the new buyers thread, I recently picked up a 05 AP2 B/Black completely stock after a little online interaction and drama having to bring it down from ACT. Worked out well particularly as I learnt at the end that the seller was a member of the police force.

That being said, when I received the car, and in doing a vic roadworthy, they found that the rear tires needed replacing (were overinflated it seemed so the middle was worn), so I took the opp to fit 4 new RE002s since the 050s were not in stock.

Firstly, having been out of country for a while, I went back to Donnellans on Johnston St (where I used to go), where Rocky (ask for him and tell him that Tze recommended you) got me a great deal in the $1150 range including a full wheel alignment (these guys have great bridgestone prices and he couriered them out same day for me). Instructions that I gave him for the wheel alignment was to max out the castor to minimise bumpsteer, but left him to spec out the camber and toe as he saw fit within mfr specs.

Rear
Toe 1.9
Camber - 1.31-1.33

Front
Caster 6.47
Camber -0.25-0.38 (close enough)
Toe 0-0.1

The RE002s have the bridgestone replacement guarantee if they have gutter rash etc; and donnellans suprisingly want to see the car at 5000km to check the alignment

First impressions on the tires is that they ride very comfortably at around 38psi cold. Having been a little generous with the right boot on a second gear corner, I can say that they slide very progressively, and very easy to catch particularly as I was not expecting the slide (prob b/c tires were still new).

300 kms later having run them in the wet also, they havent acqua planed in generous rainfall, though have not pushed hard on wet braking or otherwise.

Will give more thoughts once I have had more of a chance to run with them, but so far very happy.

Oh and one thing that has confounded me a little is that the tire tread looks asymmetrical and uni directional too, but based on what I can see on research and what is installedonmy car is that same tyre is mounted the right facing direction for both sides of the car such that the tread spread is not the same on both sides

RE001 were the same. One side kind of looks like it would push water to the outside of the tyre, while on the other side of the car that same tread looks like it would move the water to towards the centre of the tyre.

The Bridgestone sale rep said the RE002 had plenty of RnD time improving the dry performance while the wet performance has significantly improved. I am contemplating on fitting these to my to be S2000 when I get it and her new shoes. RE001s have been fairly impressive on my car though the wet performance can be improved. Looks like they went some way to address this =)

Be that as it may, if you wanted to stick with bridgestones why wouldn't you just buy the RE11's?
