You're on the right track - Diamond Star Motors means Mitsubishi/Chrysler (or now Chrysler-Daimler/Mitsubishi).
As I am sure you are aware, the two companies have been partnering for the last 30 years. In Australia some fruits of the partnership included Chrysler selling Valiants, Galants and Lancers before they sold the Adelaide factory to Mitsubishi in the late '70s.
The Diamond Star name comes from the two brand badges - The Chrysler badge is a 5 pointed star whilst Mitsubish, which has 3 diamonds interconnected in its badge. surprisingly enough, means 3 diamonds in Japanese.
Diamond Star Motors was a joint venture manufacturing plant built in Michigan in the 1980s. It produced cars for both brands that were badged under many names. e.g. the Mitsubishi Eclipse was also sold as an Eagle Talon and a Plymouth. Most of Chrysler's vehicles had Mitsubishi motors in them including the "K" cars, one model of which was my beloved Chysler Le Baron convertible (had the Astron 2.6 - same as in the Aussie Magna).
