Default WTF happened to the search function?

It's been a long while (several months) since I've been in the forum...been really busy.

What happened to the advanced search functionality on this site? I used to be able to search by author, subset on date, etc - even after the site upgrade. Now, the search function is totally lame (unless I'm missing the secret link somewhere). Why would "they" regress the functionality of the site?

Anyway...does anyone know how to search for "cruise control" here in Oz? It's a question I've asked before, and am looking for installers for the S. Now if only I could find the previous answers I've tried both "cruise control" (including quotes) and +cruise +control. Too many false hits.

Thanks...

It's sad but true that the search functionality has regressed badly over the last two years.

There's been a number of moves by the management to reduce and restrict the search capability of the members. I don't know why but I suspect it may be because of onerous privacy legislation in the USA - who knows?

Perhaps try cruise + control + fitting + Sydney + speed or some other such elaborate construction?

Actually I think it was because very few people knew how to use it. How many threads have you seen that start with "Search is down so...." but search is working just fine.

BTW, an inclusive search is structured like this:

+word1 +word2 +word3

But if you're looking for a cruise control try a Google for "Rostra Electric Life".

Nah, +cruise +control gives me all the links about upcoming cruises, etc. I want to search for "cruise control" (exact phrase). And where is the help link for how to construct a search phrase. Very frustrating...

Thanks for the info about autron. I believe that was the manufacturer I was looking for from my previous post.

Actually I found out why search is so lame:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...43496&hl=search

Or just search that forum for "search". You'll see a lot of hits, and it's a known issue.

Unfortunately it looks like it would be a major architectural redesign of the underlying database to get search working again. Ouch!

If you do know of other cruise control manufacturers for the S that are here in Oz, let me know. And apologies for asking the question again

What about this method.....?

Site Search

The word "site" followed by a colon enables you to restrict your search to a specific site. To do this, use the site:sampledomain.com syntax in the Google search box. For example, to find admission information on Stanford's site, enter:

example:

See http://www.google.com/features.html#sitesearch for the example if you don't get it.
