Default American Open Wheel War is Over?

Speed TV

I can't believe it but it looks like the open wheel war is finally over. In Beta vs. VHS, VHS won. In HD vs. BlueRay, BlueRay won. In Champ Car Vs. IRL, the Fans win!

Awesome! That is great news. Thanks for posting. It will be a VERY interesting Indy 500 this year -- Paul Tracy is hungry for that again I'm sure.

I will be so psyched to hear it's "official" - finally.

I don't understand why the IRL won't allow the Panoz DP-01 chassis to be used. Why do they have to switch to the Dallara?

I guess the reason they won't be able to use the Cosworth engine is because they are turbo and the Honda is n/a, at least I think they are. Those Dallaras are fugly.

Different chassis and engines would be great to see again in this series. The Push/Power to Pass fro ChampCar was pretty damn cool - kind of like having VTEC kick in for us

IRL definitely needs more than one engine company to be really interesting. I hope this move encourages more manufacturers to take an interest.

this is fantastic news. I'm glad to see many hours of hard work by a lot of people produced a desired outcome for many fans. Its also nice to see in this day and age, exec's put aside their own personal agendas and think of open wheeled racing as a whole entity. There's hope then for the FIA ?? ..... probably NOT !!!

I hope it gets some more TV coverage and I hope they work on the chassis' design as I too think the cars need a new look..

Auto week reporting this now also

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...08/newsletter02

I would LOVE to see races on Speed and not have to guess where they will be shown from week to week

I'm SO glad Honda was big enough to be flexible on their race weekend. I would have been VERY disappointed with them if not...

On one hand it will be nice to see more cars at Indy this year. But the biggest looser may be the ALMS in all of this, hopefully the series is strong enough to carry the Road America race as a headliner now that CART is gone.

I don't think it will hurt ALMS; I certainly hope not since I am a fan of both. It seems to be gathering good momentum as a series.

I am going to see both series race this year... both dates in July actually, one week apart. It's going to be a damn busy summer

Ooh Cypher09 - I just LOVE that car #11 photo collage! I know I've told you before, but it never hurts to say it again! That's what Honda heritage is all about, not the big boring Accords and minivans

I try to see the cars I don't like as funding for their racing programs and building the S at an affordable price
