I would guess this was done to "help" RBR get a new engine supplier, but I have a feeling it will go the other way either forcing RBR out or to stick with Renault.
I don't know how this will affect RBR but it should help the sport from a competitive standpoint and hopefully lead to a more even playing field.

Unless Mercedes engines stay greater than Ferrari... which stay greater than Renault... which stay greater than Honda.

Ferrari were only prepared to offer RBR a 2015 spec engine for next year, the rule states they would have to offer the same engine as the constructors, so in 2016 all teams would have to use 2016 engines. RBR with a current spec Ferrari (or even Merc) engine would arguably make RBR faster than Ferrari much like from 2010-2013 when RBR were essentially unbeatable.

I can't blame Ferrari or Merc for not wanting to supply RBR engines based on that.

^ it'll be interesting to see how that plays out. Maybe Honda will have another customer

McLaren does hold veto power afaik over who Honda supplies, being the works partner.

It will be interesting, I just hope Bernie's politics don't aid the situation. Unfortunately, this is the price you must pay for not having/making your own engine.

Kevin Magnussen released by McLaren on his birthday

I for sure hope, he can find a race seat for next season. If not, I hope he can team up with his dad for the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. I think K-Mag deserves another chance. Hopefully he gets an offer from a good team.

Part of me thinks he would be an interesting choice. Another part tells me he'd be no different than Bernie. Christian Horner was touted as someone to replace Bernie sometime last year. I think he would be a good candidate. Ross Brawn too perhaps.

Lauda certainly has the business acumen in terms of management/management experience. However, I do think they should find somebody outside of F1 who does understand digital markets and doesn't play geo-politics (or plays it better than Bernie). I'd be in favor of the Stephen Ross (Miami Dolphins)/Qatari bid, with any number of folks as the GM.

It'd ruffle the shit out of the rest of F1, but if the Haas team is not Stewart-Haas, then Tony Stewart could probably make a good go as F1's GM.
