^ oh! great, I have to drive all the way down to Austin for this now

Glad its coming back though and I figure I can board up at my cousins or at a friends for the return of the US Grand Prix.

That said, it is sad to see that historic American tracks have been ignored for glitz and glamour.

a 40 minute drive from San Antonio!!

I wonder where? I can't imagine any of the local tracks capable of hosting an F1 Event. They would have to build a special track or venue just for this, unless its a street circuit, which is great because I will be able to drive an F1 track very soon

It's the same as New Jersey and Vegas. Sorry I couldn't hold my excitement thinking of attending a F1 race 40 minutes away for the next 10 years.

It's on the official F1 website. What more of a confirmation do you need? It's definitely more than just a rumor. Now there's always the chance that the track doesn't get done but I would think the process is pretty far along if Bernie and F1 are going to come out and announce it.

Those were rumors, not announcements made by F1 and FOA. Bernie and F1 wouldn't want to make an announcement like this and risk the embarrassment of it not going through if they weren't confident it would happen.

I was thinking venue not actual track. After rereading you are correct.

"a world-class facility will be purpose-built to host the event"

Im sure if any State can do it, it is Texas.

My concern though is whether the track will be built on a site that utilizes the hilly terrain around Austin so the track is more classic in nature and driveability versus the flatter Hermann Tilke tracks.

I'd love to see something along the lines of Watkins Glen, Indy (with the banked turn onto the mile long front straight), or Laguna Seca and hope that any track design factors in such details.

A co-worker/fellow f1 fanatic just came over with the news. Talk about coming out of left field.
