It's on the official F1 website. What more of a confirmation do you need? It's definitely more than just a rumor. Now there's always the chance that the track doesn't get done but I would think the process is pretty far along if Bernie and F1 are going to come out and announce it.
You can just call me Mr. Pessimistic, I'm ok with that, after all, just because it is on the F1 site does not mean it is nothing more than Bernie up to his old f'ing tricks. Bernie did not become a billionaire by mistake, he is a shred business negotiator.

south korea got a place on the F1 calendar with a race in just 1 year. they were officially announced just September of 2009. the race is this October.

no reason they cant get it done here. (there is cheap labor from across the border readily available...)

no point in having it NY or anywhere near there in my opinion, with Montreal so close by.

I was hugely surprised by this but the more i think about it the more i get excited.

anyone can be skeptical, especially after USF1 debacle. but i am hopeful and if its on the F1 website, im taking it as official as a ground breaking ceremony.

now its apparent that monticello BS last week was the "shrewd" business tactic ecclestone threw out to garner a better deal from austin, no doubt. this is the real deal folks. and i cant wait.

(cant wait for 2 weeks when i got to montreal too! woo!)

the difference between here (US) and other places in the world where they've done a F1 race in less than a year is the lack of bureaucratic red tape in other countries. in korea and singapore the government said do it and things were done. if neighbors or activists in a certain area were against the race they either kept quiet or the government shut them up.

here, you gotta twist arms and go to court and negotiate contracts before anything even starts.

im VERY skeptical about this...

It's like Christmas in May! 3 hour drive. Hopefully MotoGP comes too. Better have some track days available too.

This is not going to happen in 2012, maybe never.

The promoter hasn't ever pick a site yet! So they're going to get all the easements, permits, environmental impact studies, overcome local opposition, payoff the people who need to be paid off and build a track with enough seating and parking to host an F1 race? In two years?

No.
