Spotters on a road circuit???? I doubt it.
Some friends of mine were spotters for the 24 hr of Daytona. Sure, that's all inside the Daytona oval, but it's a road course and that was for an amatuer team.

Have you ever done a kart race ? Sometimes you have to "rub" another kart to make the pass into a corner.
Occasionally you will 'rub' another kart however anything excessive, i.e. knocking another kart clear off the track as JPM did would result in a black flag.
The move that Montoya made really falls into the category of 'dive bombing' as far as I'm concerned.

I'll go out on a limp and say that Montoya will not win one race in the Nextel series this year. Actually that's not even going out on a limp, he won't.

I'd think JPM would be in a class of his own. He's one of the better F1 drivers of the last 8 years driving against primarily BUSCH drivers who grew up oval racing, and a few road course ringers with generally sub par rides - this was not a NEXTEL Cup race. There were only about 2-3 regular cup guys in the field.
Montoya still hasn't won in a NEXTEL cup race, in fact his two finishes at Daytona and California this year weren't anything to write home about, though he's qualified ok.
It will be much more interesting at Watkins Glen and Inf inion in June and August when there's Tony Stewart, J Gordon, Rudd, Martin, and other natural cup guys who can actually road race as well and (unlike the Busch teams) can match him on budget.
Still, there's a lap time breakdown of every driver at the 24hrs of Daytona a month ago and JPM was 4th overall and fastest in his team (which by the way included Pruett who I think was a full second slower). Doesn't condone the dive bomb with 9 laps to go and a far better car (he actually made a very similar move on Scott in lap 3 to pass for the lead - same turn).
