No actually, I meant what I wrote. We just had this exact discussion in the new england forum. Several of the guys specifically "prefers nascar over f1" (or alms) because "the crashes make it more exciting".

That's great FIA is trying to get more passing, and I hope they do, but I can guarantee you that will not satisfy those with "demo derby mentality". People like what they know. If they grew up watching nascar they are going to prefer that.

I simply watch anything Honda races in. So I religiously tune into F1, IRL, ALMS, and Touring Cars. I hope Honda does NOT start racing in Nascar but if they do I will be forced to watch that as well.

You seem to be missing MY point. There's nothing special about Americans in this regard. Try chatting about baseball in Europe.

Not caring about F1 or FIFA or rugby or sumo wrestling or team handball does not mean Americans hate them because they are from somewhere else. It just means they don't know and don't care.
I understood your point.

I simply disagree with it.

So why did you assume I didn't understand yours?

I explained why: your example was one of people liking things invented locally, not of people disliking things not invented locally. The two aren't equivalent, nor does the former imply the latter.

Sorry, but you need to read more carefully.

I didn't say that basketball was invented by an American; I said that it was invented in America.

While it's true that Dr. James Naismith was Canadian, he invented basketball in Springfield, Massachusetts which, if memory serve, is in the United States.
Ok, but that does NOT make it an American invention. Invented in American implies invented by an American. Not phonetically what you posted, but that is what people get out of it and what your post implies.

I also have to agree with Mike. All nationalities show allegiances to their own...you know it the patriotic thing....

I guess you are missing my point after all. You think people in the US dislike F1? I have news for you -- most people in the US don't care enough about F1 to like it or dislike it.

Every NASCAR fan I have ever talked to thinks F1 cars are kind of neat, and most would be happy to watch a race rather than a rerun of the Simpsons. But they aren't going to get up at 1am and watch it live, or obsess about whether Lewis Hamilton really is a great driver or just has a great car. They are too busy obsessing about whether Jimmy Johnson is a great driver or just has a great car. Different strokes....

In fact, it's the (US) F1 fans that tend to be more closeminded and snobbish, putting down "NASCRAP" or "CRASHCAR" whenever possible. This forum is a prime example. Most of the time you hear a NASCAR fan talk about dislikeing F1, it's only because some F1 fan has been dissing NASCAR to them.

I'm not certain that it's the case most of the time, but you're right that F1 fans tend to be rather snobbish.

Real race cars don't have fenders.

How the hell did this thread turn into about NASCAR and F1?

And non US F1 Fans also don't care much about NASCAR.

You race bicylcles in an oval not cars.

I dont miss a single F1, ex-Champcar, IRL, GP2, ALMS, Grand-AM, MotoGP race, and everything else in between. Im the biggest fan you'll ever meet!

Nascar is a joke, i don't skip the nascar part of SPEED News because they show the crashes. How can you take a series that throws random cautions (phantom cautions) cause the race is boring and someone is kicking everyone else's ass. Plus the fact that my lawn mower has more technology than a nascar, like fuel injection!
