Right. Says the "not a track guru".

This guy...

Sucks to see that happen. What matters is that you made it out unharmed and that the car look repairable. There's a lot of bench racers out there that'll make less than helpful comments potentially backed up by little to no actual experience, so don't let it get to you. You push your car out on track and push it hard. Keep it up! Can't wait to see what's to follow.

Yea. Same thing happened to me in my S2000. Should I list all my track days and shitty situations I have been in and how I have slid before? It doesn't matter, shit happens just learn from it. Good thing is you were able to walk away from it.

Jesus christ man, and we were just talking about track insurance in the last few weeks.
Im glad you are ok, and the car does look like a handful. But def worth fixing and take it back out there.

sometimes it just happens, and it happens too fast to correct. Ive had literally the same thing happen to me coming out of Grapevine (turn 4) at button. The rear just snap oversteer over the rumble strip, and when the tire hit tarmac it snapped in the other direction. It just sucks that you had a wall there to stop you.

I get that. But all that was to make the point that I actually have good car control and this was my first spin ever. I understand that the S2K can be snappy and most people tend to spin a lot in a car like this. But doing so many track days and my VERY FIRST SPIN ever that results in crashing just feels like a major milestone for me and very unlike me considering I don't drive over my comfort limits. I slide through turn 2 and 3 at Laguna all the time intentionally to get the car rotated. It's not like I had a random oversteer moment, freaked, out and lost control. This situation happens probably 10-15 times a track day for me and I quickly correct and swiftly continue the momentum without losing much if any time at all. This wasn't an "oh shit" moment for me at all until the car snapped in the other direction. Anyways, I intentionally posted this in my build thread and not in a brand new post in another sub forum for attention. Sorry that you happened to stumble upon it and get annoyed by it.

But yes the bottom line is while it was a very unexpected scenario, I did make the mistake of not thinking something like that could be possible. Live and learn from experience. And my take away personally is to buy the year track insurance premium so I can enjoy driving 2 cars hard with less financial consequence.

As I already told you sorry to see this happen. Definitely a strange one just in how hard it snapped back. RE71s are a little quicker to transition to and from grip but not that dramatic in my experience. Sort of strange the car started sliding in the first place there with those tires and your setup. I would definitely investigate and see if anything happened to the car. One good hit of any of those red sausage curbs at Laguna can bend and break stuff. Is the car still driving straight? Not something simple like pressure loss in a tire or something like that.

I hit the turn 3 apex bump a few times earlier that day that got the inside wheels off the ground a few times, but nothing out of the ordinary. Car felt pretty fine all day. I was running consistent 1:45's most of the day and it was extremely hot. I didn't feel anything that could suggest a mechanical issue. At this point I'm just chalking it up to bad luck. Lots of cars spun that day too. There was a C7 vette right in front of me running a slower pace and he spun at turn 5. I just got unlucky.

And my S2K isn't a ratty track car. I put a lot of money into it because I like it so much, and I bought a really clean car as well. Just seems like it's for the best. If I'm not pushing the cars as hard as I can, I'd rather not go to the track at all. I'm honestly only having fun when I'm improving my driving and lap times are dropping.
Gotcha.. I guess if you purchase a year up front it's cheaper than just by the weekend insurance. I looked at the cost of it and it didn't make sense to me at the price per event. I think I remember there being something like a $5k deductible as well which for the s2000 didn't make sense to me. $3600 for a year including your GT4 doesn't sound bad.

I hear you on pushing the car on track. If my lap times aren't improving and I'm not learning I'm not having fun either. Definitely ignore the critics.. I think most guys who frequent the track hit something sooner or later. Just how it goes when you're pushing the limits, we're human after all.
