Any Midwest/Northeasteners Daily Ride?
I've just realized that one very important factor for me if I ever chose to get a motorcycle would be its ability to be used as a daily vehicle. Not to transport people or significant amounts of stuff, just to get around. Specifically, how any motorcycle could handle light snow conditions - not as concerned with rain (would have wet weather gear), cold but with no snow (cold weather gear), or serious snow (just wouldn't go out I guess, or would take a car).
What preparations, if any, do those who "daily" their motorcycles make for snow?
Are there snow tires for motorcycles?
Maybe I should be worried about severe cold because maybe motorcycle tire compounds all turn rock hard in the cold?
What other considerations should a rider in the US Midwest/Northeast/snowy part make?
Would any of these considerations rule out a super-sport as a mode of transport in the winter? I cannot remember ever seeing a motorcycle on the roads during the winter in my 8 years of being in Chicago, maybe there is a reason for that.

I daily ride until Thanksgiving. Once snow flies and they salt the roads, I'm done. Heated grips, heated jacket liner, and a pin-lock shield are great investments. I have a 25 minute commute and will ride if the roads are dry and it is above 30 degrees in the morning.

Ridden in flurries, but never on snow. My VFR would not do very well with the performance tires on it. I've been tempted to get a cheap dual sport for crappy weather/light winter use.
