Default DIY Second Power Source

anyone have a DIY guide for installing a second power source? Since we only have one source by the center console I was hoping to install one to the right of the radio. For GPS and iphone and save the other for something else.

I'm always hitting it with my elbow.

that's helpful. Is there a way to get it off the radio?

I used the radio power for my radar direct-wire. I think if you Google S2000 radio harness you can figure out which wire is the switched 12v positive (the one that turns on and off with the ignition). For ground, just connect to any metal part of the car, such as the screws that hold the radio in the dash.

Let me know how it goes. I've considered doing the same thing. In my Accord, I have a bank of 4 extra outlets that I tucked away in the glove compartment for powering road trip goodies (radar, phones, GPS, camera battery chargers). I wired that one to the existing front outlet.

Just tap into the fuse box by your kick panel. That's how I hardwired my radar detector. No splicing needed.
You can go to bestbuy and ask the electronic installer guys if you can have one of those tiny metal inserts for the fuse box. Pull one of the fuses that's for the radio then insert the small metal piece then place the fuse back in its place to hold the small metal piece. Then just run your own wire and fuse. It's easy. I can even help you do this if you want. I'm thinking about doing this too.

You can go to the fuse box but you still need to ground, and at least on my car, there's no human way possible to reach that sacred mythical ground bolt above the kick panel without hiring a team of super intelligent rats, training them for years to ground wires for cheese, and then setting them free in the cabin.

The radio takes two minutes to pull and it's the easiest way to ground.

But Justin's way is still a legitimate solution for short Asian guys and people with lab rats.

Rob. Before you cut your cig power cable, I would recommend you buy an add a circuit. It goes directly into the fuse box without cutting any wires. You can get this at most auto store (autozone, oreilly).
