More engine problems
After getting a new powerplant at 14.5k, I am again plagued by engine problems. I'm experiencing a severe lurch between 6500 and 7500 RPM (first forward like myself and everyone else on this alias enjoys for sure, but then a sharp back throttle as though I hit the rev limiter). I have experienced this mildly in heavy traffic around 6500 in the past, but never to this degree. I can't get in to to the shop until Tuesday. Does anyone know what might be wrong or if I should just garage it until my appointment?
Thanks,
Rob

I'm pretty sure I know what's wrong.
If you are running up the revs (beyond 6K) before you hit 3 bars of heat the rev limiter WILL kick in and lurch as you describe.
Is this what you're doing? If so... bad, bad, bad.
(I've done it) You need to let the oil heat up to bring the viscosity to running peak and also to coat the moving parts. This rev limiter action is a feature designed to help.
OTOH. You've put enough miles on the car that you would have seen this already. Maybe the trigger point has changed or is busted?

No, that's not the problem. I learned my lesson on that one pretty early on. The engine is quite warm before the behavior occurs. Otherwise, I would not be able to exceed 6500. However, during a smooth acceleration, the engine is happy as a clam. But, during an aggressive acceleration, the engine loses power just after the VTEC kicks in.
Thanks, Rob

ive had similar problems....but the problem is that i cant duplicate it....it only happens every once in awhile....ive been told that its the TPS (throttle position sensor) that may be the cause of this....so hope that helps a bit....
I'll second HondaTech and add that you might be able to alleviate the symptoms yourself by removing the MAP and lightly tapping it with a screw driver. This has been the standard fix for the many of us that have experienced th problem.
If that doesnt do the trick then i'd suggest checking your spark plugs to make sure they are tight.
