Thumbs down In Need of advice and options!

hey fellas,

so i have been out of the loop for a while with family and all, but i need some much needed advice and recommendations.

it appears that my car with 82k has just started to have a lower knocking sound (described by the mechanic as a potential rod knocking or bearing).

well they are currently getting me an estimate of what the worst case scenario is going to be for breaking down the engine and rebuilding? ( if its' needed)

my question is where do i go about getting an ap1 engine? if it's easier just to buy a new one and bolt it on.

or two what would you guys recommend if i the cheaper option is to tear down and rebuild the engine?

**** some important notes. car has never been tracked,
**** oil has been changed every 5k mobil 1 synthetic, and all maintenance records kept.

since i'm out of warranty this will be out of pocket expense, i think it's going to cost me around 5K

any advice or shops you would recommend to get me back on the road would be much appreciated!

Carlos

Maybe they can just do bearings? Hopefully Brian or Vu will chime in.

Hey Carlos. Like I said before, the first thing I would do is drop the oil pan and check the conditions of the bearings and the journals first before you do anything.

mac,
i'm also hoping that is just the case.

i'm hoping it's as easy as dropping the oil pan, and seeing if the damage can be fixed before they pull the motor.

if the motor gets pulled then i'm hoping its just the bearings, and if the crank is out then i might just buy a new one instead of getting it machined.

either way it sucks!

however, i'm going for worst case scenario and if that happens i might just drop in a F22c engine. N-1 Concepts has one and they are capable of doing the full install. and gave me a price under my budget.

i'm just waiting to get a full quote from my mechanic.

vu,
the problem is they have been dealing with the extended warranty people, and where waiting to get the green light.

tomorrow i think i'm just going to give them the green light to drop the oil pan and check it out and give me some sort of diagnosis

Just for info, bearings are usually oil related problems or should I say lack of oil

it should be way less than 5K that you would have to spend. i agree with vu and mac. check to see whats wrong first.

oil levels have always been appropriate that's why i'm wondering what could have caused this.

Then I'm assuming you've been the original owner?
