Default Shops that can replace synchros?

My 4th gear has been grinding more and more while driving tamely on the street. Doesn't happen too often and it's not very significant. I can typically shift a little slower and mitigate the grind.

I was contemplating on purchasing some gear-sets and doing the synco replacement myself. Are there any reputable shops that have worked gearboxes before? If the labor $$ isn't too significant, I'd rather have a shop deal with it. I can remove and drop off the tranny at the shop.

I'm pretty sure Driving Ambition near Sacramento can do it. Last time I was there, they were wrapping up a NSX trans.

Anyone with personal experience replacing synchros?

I think RCrew does transmission rebuilds. If you contact them I think they might able to help you out.

Might a lightly used tranny not be less expensive?

It may very well be, but without knowing the the pedigree - it's a big gamble. I'd rather rebuild the one I have now, as it's been with me since day 1.

Yeah I had a GSR tranny on my old Civic and lost 2nd gear. Ended up replacing with another tranny with more mileage and turned out that it actually had bad syncro's.

It was a headache beyond belief. Spend the extra dough to rebuild your tranny and know that it is done right.
