The article I read was regarding a law that was passed in 2003 that allowed for the crushing of cars confiscated for street racing. That law just finished up a year of litigation by a (former) car owner. I am assuming the owner lost by the way the cops are strutting about.

Let me just say this, this is NOT something that 99.999% of you ever need to worry about period. They cannot take your car for speeding, the cannot take your car because it is modded, they would be very hard pressed to do it even for racing. Why? The 8th amendment prevent the assignment of excessive fines. $30,000 for racing would qualify as an excessive fine. If you have a compentent attorney you will get off easy. NOW there are exceptions that can make the 8th amendment not apply here. If the vehicle was purchased with illicit funds or through illicit activity. It's one of the ways that they can seize drug dealers cars. If you bought your car with the proceeds of drug money, seizing that car really isn't a fine it's more like seizing the drug money.
I'm sure they've crushed cars and I'm sure they said that they said they were for a number offences, but were they really? A car may have been caught racing but it was purchased with gang money and or drug money. They can crush the car because it was purchased with illicit funds but they may 'say' they crushed the car because they were racing.

yikes! that is scary!
Buying or selling drugs, even if the vehicle was not purchased with drug money. Yeah, this includes scoring some weed.
Trying to pick up hookers.
I think "gang related activity" might be another.
Some pics from the crushing:
Look up "41.70.2 LAMC" on google for more info.

Unless you consider the fact that the ones that escape the cops normally VERY rarely make it on the show, if at all. The best video ever is the one with the 15 year old kid in the E30 BMW M3 that owned one of the cops but eventually got caught.
Therefore you'll only see the fast cars that have drivers that make grave mistakes, like crashing into big rigs and walls and whatnot.

^ ohhhhh that puckers my ass hole...
There's a statewide statute from 2002 or thereabouts that calls for a mandatory 30-day impound for street racing, reckless driving, or exhibition of speed. All that they need to do is tack these on to the definition of "nuisance vehicle" like they did with street racing, and you have even more ways to lose your ride.
Next up:
Loud Stereos, cruising, mods.
I am a big fan of the slippery slope argument, so we can add no front plates too.

TOTAL B.S.!! So guys this means they can impound our cars for 30 days, just even for getting into VTEC! (exhibition of speed) is defined by the cops as such simple things as reving the motor excessively, spinning the tires or accelerating agressively.. TOTAL B.S.!!!
