Removing stock resonators

The resonator is the smaller muffler looking thing between the cat and the rear mufflers. It acts like an additional muffler and further quiets the exhaust note. Removing it just makes the car slightly louder. I haven't noticed any droning.

If you like a little extra noise...
One of the best "free" mods available on the S2k is to remove the stock airbox cover. You'll lose one or two HP by pulling in some warmer air from the engine, but the sound is definitely worth it. (very similar to a cold air intake)

Yeah... the cool guys are in the yellow cars.
OC, I'de be very surprized if it was as much as 7HP, but a hot day will definitely worsen the power loss somewhat. The nice thing is that it takes 2 min to put on or off. Take it off and see if you feel the power loss, if you do... put the thing back on.
Before I got my CAI, I used to leave the cover off most of the time, but replace it for track days.
With the cover off, you really feel V-tec kicking in.
