Used S2k from private party...
Hello I guess i'm finally in the market for a used s2k and i had a question about used cars and taxes..
Ok, my friend from Arizon says he bought a used car from a private party and didn't pay any taxes for it...
Is this applicable for So Cal as well (private party, not car dealer)..

When you go in to register and transfer ownership, part of the paperwork asks for the sale price, it's on the honor system so you can write down pretty much anything, which the state then charges you sales tax on.
Also the price you provide is reflected on the registration tax also from then on out whenever you renew.

so basically, there is no difference between buying USED/NEW for cars.. tax wise.. cause you get taxed no matter wut..
But if you put down that your car ex. 2003 honda s2000 is only worth $1500.00 I believe the DMV will charge you low blue book value on your car. My cousin is a manager at one of the DMV's I can ask him for you.
I'll PM you later today

It's true, you pay tax on a used, private party car. Sucks, huh? Doesn't it seem like the government is getting multiple taxes on the same car? It's screwed up. If a car is sold 3 or 4 times in 1 year, does that mean taxes were paid every time?
