currently using castrol edge and quite happy with it, but wanted to know if there are any benefits/loss switching over to valvoline maxlife since it seems to be significantly cheaper but isn't full synthetic and only a synthetic blend? additionally, car is an ap1 with a little over 100k miles...thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated.

TIA
You can get Valvoling Maxlife in a full Synthetic, it's just sometimes kind of hard to find.

i also use Amsoil, the quality is there, and there are several members who can get you 6qrts for less than 50.00.....

the timken oil test is a buncha crock, Royal Purple is crap. even their reps i talked to at SEMA a 2 years back didnt know much about their own product.... i stick with Redline myself, ive used Amsoil with good results but i stopped using it after they stopped meeting European ACEA A3 regulations. Motul 300v is a very quality oil but overkill for a daily driver imo and lacks the detergency compared other high performance oils, although it is expected because it is a race oil afterall. it can be daily driven on, just change every 3k miles. another oil i liked is Neo Synthetic oil. right now im trying out the new Pennzoil Ultra after seeing many positive UOA's of the Pennzoil Platinum oil, although it is the first GrpIII oil my engine has seen since after breaking in my motor several years back.

I use Mobil 1 because of the cheap 5 quart jugs at Walmart as well. I buy one of those, and always keep 1 quart in the trunk. Between oil changes (every 4,500-5,000 miles), I have to add ~1/3-1/2 of a quart max.

When I had an AP1, I switched from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic, and it didn't burn quite as much between changes, but its harder to find.

Royal Purple is a joke, it's all marketing BS. I'd never buy it and wouldn't use it even if I got it for free.

Runs me about 50bucks total and 1hr job but cars runs healthy with about 5quarts. This castrol edge??? what weight and qt#? im curious
