Default '04 rx-8 or '05 rsx-s?

im looking at buying a 2004 rx-8 gt with leather, sunroof, 6spd man, in bright silver... everything but navi and 38k miles for $17k or an '05 grey rsx-s with 57k for $15000. I had an 00 s2000, and loved it, but I would like a newer car, and cant seem to find a 2003+ with low mileage for under 17k. (that and i love the 9k redline of the 2000-2003). Im aware of the bad gas mileage and flooding problems with the rx-8, just let me know your opinions. Thanks guys

I don't like the RX8. To me it's just a bad combination of sport and practicality.

The RSX is much more practical. The S2000 is much higher performing.

The flooding thing is largely in the past as there is a new ECU flash now that has removed that from the car.

Depends what you are looking for. If you travel with 4 people a lot, the RX8 is a good car with the swing open door. In terms of practicality they are about the same. The RX8 has a smaller trunk, but the back seats are much more accessible.

The RSX Type S's engine is basically bulletproof, with a lot of mods. So if you play with your car, that might be something to consider. I would say the FWD thing would be a deal breaker for me though. I have seen an RSX plant itself into the railing at Button Willow because the driver was coming around the corner and it oversteered badly. Also, the more hp you put into it the worse the torque steer you will get.

The RX-8 is the S2000's spiritual cousin if you ask me, its an S with four seats and a roof. If you like the S2000, you'll like the RX-8 since they have such similar driving dynamics - high revving engine, slick shifter, rwd, really fun to drive.

An RSX is a nice little car, but its fwd and is a step down imo. I have friends with both cars and the RX-8 is much more fun to sit in, let alone drive.

RX-8 has better steering, pedal feel, braking, shifter, handling, better backseats, looks hotter, is 50-50 weight balance, 9k redline, RWD, more stable at high speeds and has about the same acceleration.

No need to mod it and if you add too much HP in the RSX-S it's useless because of the FWD thing.

Oh and if you put 2000$ in engine mods on the RSX-S and 2000$ of suspension mods on the RX-8 (sway and strut bars, Mazdaspeed springs and shocks) you'll have more fun in the RX-8 guaranteed.

thanks a lot guys, i was also thinking the rx8 myself... but wanted other peoples opinions. This forum alone makes me want another s2000 (that and its the best car ive had... yes even more fun that my evo 8) I have a big problem with switching up my cars. Im trying to pick the right one to settle down with. I can always count on this forum for non biased user opinions.

If it will be your only car/daily driver, I'd say get the rsx. If its a track toy/weekend car then get the rx-8. I'm sure the rx-8 is more fun to drive but the resale is pretty horrible. I know you mentioned bad gas mileage but a friend has one and he says it chugs gas like a v8. My gf owns an 03 rsx type-s and its had 0 problems, gets about 25mpg city and i've hit 34 mpg on a roadtrip.

These cars are pretty even in a straight line, but thats about the only area that the RSX can keep up. I prefer ever aspect of the RX-8, minus gas mileage, over the RSX. The choice would be simple for me..
