2 weeks and no plates yet
I recently bought a used s2000 from a local Honda dealer. Its been
16 days and they still don't have my plates. My temporary plate expires
on Tuesday. I've spoken to several people at the dealership and they
dont seem to know whats going on. The used car manager took my info
but never returned my call.
Do I have any recourse? Can anyone think of any reason this could happen?
Should I be suspicious or is this just ordinary incompentnce

This happened to me with Planet Honda in NJ. I hadn't received my plates by the time my temp tags expired, and couldn't seem to get any answers from them (kept claiming the tags were on their way). When I finally got a manager on the phone, he told me that the plates had been in for weeks, but I had to give them $200 more if I wanted them, due to a "mix up" on my bill. All total BS. F'ing crooks.
I'm sure your case is simply one of the dealerhip not getting them from the DMV yet, but be wary of Planet Honda in NJ if you've bought from them.

I had a similar problem. I bought my S2000 at a Honda dealer in NJ. I live in PA. So I needed to register and get PA plates. The NJ dealer wanted something like $190 to get the plates for me. I was paying cash for the car. So I tell them to just give me the title to the car right now, and I will register it in PA and pay the PA tax myself at a PA notary. This would have saved me about $130. They say fine. But they need to wait until the title arrives from the previous owner's bank. They agreed to mail it to me when it arrived. Three weeks go by, and no title. I call up like 3 times before I finally talk to someone who can figure out what happened. It seemed that the title came in. But instead of sending it right to me like they were supposed to, they sent it to PA DOT and registered my car and paying my PA sales tax for me (even though I had never paid the dealer any sales tax). Now they were out about $2000 in PA taxes, but they had my PA plates. And the NJ temp tag they had issued me was about to expire. The Sales Manager calls me up and apologizes for the mess up, offers to overnight the PA tags to me as soon as they arrive, and offers to cover me incase I get any tickets for driving with expired temp tags. In the end it worked out OK. I paid the dealer for the PA tax on my car. I got my plates. And the dealer never charged me for any of the PA registration fees.

It takes forever here in Memphis due to an inept DMV. I should know, I used to support their systems. They just got rid of an old Honeywell Bull system this year, it was purchased in the mid 70s.
Anyway, I've run into this before, the dealership had to issue me a new temp tag after the first two weeks while waiting for the plates. Have them give you a new temp tag in the mean-time.

Just found out there in, funny it took a call to the GM to find that out.
The dealership was horrible, no one knew anything.
No one could simply tell me that they were on the way or if even if there
was an issue let me know.
