Hold up, a cheaply built car with triple the displacement is faster than my AP1???

I occasionally long for another big V8, especially at unsolicited stoplight drag races or when I'm going deaf freeway cruising at 4500RPM, but nothing close to the price range ticked as many of my fun/perceived quality/anticipated reliability/cost of ownership boxes as my nine-year-old S2000 did. Corvettes I've rented (granted, not Z06s) were certainly fast on the straightaway but less entertaining than my S on twisty mountain roads.

I'm not buying this notion that newer 'Vettes are reliable, either--the numbers are skewed. Anything should hold up pretty well if it doesn't see half of redline for its first four years because the septuagenarian owner coddles it like a show car. Yes I'm a little biased having worked to keep a lot of truly awful GM junk on the road throughout my teenage years, and what really bugs me about the C5 interior is how much of that discount parts-bin "heritage" was still apparent in a potentially nice car. What do I know though, my other ride is a Triumph Stag.

Despite all that, for a non-garaged beater with a trunk and a reasonable backseat I was thinking... '04 GTO?

the drivetrain on the c5, z06 or non is exceptionally reliable. It is a long record proving this both on the track, the strip and on the street. Like most chevy's or american cars in general (and some german) they can suffer from electrical tweaks. I.e. the column lock motor failing, the ABS/stability control unit, window motors, things like that, but there arent many cars that DONT suffer from small issues, they are 2000-5000lb machines with thousands and thousands of things waiting to go wrong. None of these are inherrently bad issues that draw people away from these cars.

'04 GTO? might as well get a newer ss camaro, the driving response and super heavy weight of those are a huge turn off to those shoppong for vettes. oh and i havn't driven a non z06 c5, but myu z06 can carve canyons with the best s2k's trust this

^ best thread ever....

Got my first ticket in the z06, god damnit! 60 in a 45, didnt even realize it. $160 total ticket, but im worried about the insurance
Did you have the HUD turned off? Hard for me not to know how fast I'm going w/ the digital speed beamed right in my field of view. Resisting temptation is the hard part!

HUD was on! it was bright out though, and if you saw this road you'd think it was 50mph minimum, no residents, low traffic, huge 2 lane, smooth and long sweeping turns! The cop was cool about it, he said he's ridden in many vettes and agreed that he couldn't tell when he was speeding

Blah blah blah.

So you're sitting around sucking the dick of a TT-RS and you haven't even driven one? LOL. That's hilarious.

You're 27 and you come off as a 19 year old douche with a vivid imagination. And LOL at your "relative's Carrera GT that would wipe the floor with any car you've likely ever even been around, street or paddock." Ok buddy. Here's what I go around when I go to the track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49VLC6K1efY

Anyways, my point still stands, TT-RS is a joke, just like you. You, just like the TT-RS, are all about numbers and fluff. Buzz off.

All he knows about is cars on paper, hence why he threw out the "Car & Driver" stats on the car. Also, he likes measuring dicks, leave him to it.

Reminds me of people that say "That car is so fast, the 0-60 is...!" as if 0-60 is truly an indicator of how fast a car is in a straight line.

0-60 is an indicator of how fast a car is in a straight line, to 60. This is a simple concept to understand.

I don't know if anyone even cares about the Evo X or not...i forget what this thread was/is actually about, but I'm enjoying it.... the DCT will overheat at stock HP levels on a road course. My friend has one and it overheats every time at thuderhill. Granted thunderhill is a hot place, but last time it was 85 and he still had overheating issues in the tranny.

Lovin this thread.. Pretty sad that people are so stuck in their own little fantasy world that they call bullshit on reality. Numbers don't lie. It is what it is..

You're right, numbers don't lie. 248 posts. Not a single one demonstrates any driving "skill".
