Default 2002 vs. 2001 vs. 2000

I would like to ask the group - what are the differences in the first three years of the S2000 and if you found an 00, 01, and 02 - used, for sale, with the same km's/miles on it - which would you buy ?

Aside from the rear glass window on the soft top I am unaware of what exact differences exist on the different M.Y.'s

The dealership said that the new hard top could be fit on all 3 yrs.

Has anyone tried to replace the plastic window in a 00 or 01 with a glass insert ? Can the 02 softtop be put on an 00 or 01 ?

Cheers...

Ryan

The '02 has better stereo and 2 additional speakers. The rear brake light is more aggressive looking.

I like the glass window a lot. No special attention needed. You can put down the top anytime you want even when the car is extremely dirty, no need to worry that it will scratch the plastic window.

IMO, the MY2002s are also easier to sell than '00s and '01s. The people who looked at my s2k when I was selling it said that would only buy an '02.

Thier loss.

if there is a glass window insert like there is for my car, they could buy used and insert the glass window and still come out cheaper, depending on what your price was. the factory stereo no matter how great still might not compare to an aftermarket unit.

Unless they just "want a new car" I see no need to buy a new car with new car insurance premiums.

Do a search. There are a number of posts, like this one:

Thanks.. sorry to re-hash an old topic... I must admit I didn't search to see if this was already covered.

Changes between '00 and '01 (some changes came along late in the '00 model year):
1) Clock added to radio
2) Floormats became standard (still only 1 mounting post)
3) Wind deflector became standard
4) Spa Yellow added (North America)
5) Hardtop option added (North America)
6) Clutch changed to reduce buzzing (still happened on many '01s though)
7) Synchros changed to reduce grinding (still happened on many '01s though)

If I'm not mistaken the best change to 02' from 01/00 was the change to the suspension. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I remember our resident track instructor who drives an 00' S, drove an 02' S at TWS, and commented on how much better the handling was. jwfisher will have to chime in on this.
