2005 Rustang
Doesn't the GT get about 300hp? I woldn't be surprised if it was fast in a straight line. American sports cars have always been strong in that department. Also doesn't it still have vietnamese suspension? (Top gear inside joke)

The new Mustang GT is certainly at least a little faster than an S. It also weighs a hefty 2,600 lbs, so maybe 300hp is a little under-rated; maybe it'll dyno somewhere around 280rwhp? Who knows!!
Edit: I meant 3600 lbs, not 2600.

The use of Rustang in the topic of this thread does a lot of damage in that it makes us all look like ignorant fan-boys. Thanks for that.

First post by MulderATO I've ever seen, and boom -- he's already on my ignore list.
The more cool cars the better. I don't care who makes 'em.

Why is it bullshit, and why does it suck so much? 5.1-5.2 isn't totally out of the realm of possibility, and if it actually does that good, then good for it. Good for Ford for finally changing the whole car for the first time in 15-20 years! I'm not a ford person, i've never owned one. I do like the direction that the mustangs are going in. They are developing a personality, and ford is knee's deep in the HP war. Expect to see more speciiality variants aside from the Cobra.

I read a while back that the first 05 on a dyno put down around 275hp to the wheels, I'll see if I can find where I read that. But the comment about the Fbodys is stupid. There are a lot of reasons the mustang could be faster with less hp. gearing, putting the power down better, driver, hp and torque curve, ect... HP alone isn't what makes a car move. Also, for those that think Ford is making a big mistake with the solid axle, I'm not so sure. They are going to sell a ton of these things for a couple years because they are new, and when the numbers start dropping off, they'll throw in some more hp and an IRS on the GT, I can almost guarantee that. J. Mays said this car isn't going to undergo any major revisions til the end of the decade, they'll have to throw people a bone every once in a while to keep them moving.
