Oh man, I really really wish the M3's direct competitors were there too. They would have had their collective asses handed to them.
With that being said, this horse has been beaten to death.

As someone who will argue everything to the bitter end (I never thought I'd say this), I think it might be time to let this one go. The rest of is are so goddamn confused about who said what so we can't tell which one of your is right or wrong anyway. :-)
Seriously though, we get it. Tarheel clearly said that Jeremy Clarkson's opinion is scientific fact and The Don Effect and Exboost believe that the Mustang is better than the M3 in every conceivable way on account of us beating the Nat-zees in dubya dubya aught two. Right?

It seems like Ford was in the process of migrating to IRS w/ the old IRS Cobra, but IIRC they got a lot of negative feedback on the move from drag racers, who are a very enthusiastic, if not majority, component of the Mustang owner demographics.

Look. My use of Clarkson was simple, and not a big part of my overall argument. Would you agree that Clarkson is not some really weird freak who's views aren't shared by anyone else? If so, then you'll agree that his viewpoint provides insight on how others besides yourself looks at a car's value TO THEM. It says that, hey, you may not care about that in a car, but there are other people out there who care enough to spend 20k more on it.
Also that's not an objective argument unless you can present facts (e.g. a quote from a BMW exce, or sight some sort of data sheet showing that's necessary) to back it up. Otherwise, it's just speculative and thus subjective. For the record, though, I agree. Another thing to consider is that all ///M products are made in Germany. Considering the weak dollar, they're going to lose money just from selling it to us. At the same time, it costs money to transport goods that far across the globe.

And my argument is objective because in order to warrant R&D costs on a low production vehicle, they need to increase the margin at which they sell them, it's basic business, which is why Porsche has among the highest margins.
And saying that people are willing to pay 20K more for it proves that what clarkson says is true is bunk, people pay 5x more for a pair of name brand jeans.
