2023 M2......um...the front end
Not me, I loved them, and I just laughed at all the traditionalists who hated on them, the same people now paying big money for an M5.
The new beaver teeth grille on this car would've looked great, as with anything new, people hate it at first until conformity tells them it's ok to like it. The beaver front looks much better in person to the point I like it. This new grille is more traditional, and granted it could be better, but I don't think that design language would've produced something better than the beaver front. BMW should've stuck to their guns on that one.
I was at a BMW dealer the other day and walked around the M4. Holy lord is that car huge now, I wonder how big it is vs the M6 from the bangle era, it's gotta be about the same size now, and I remember how we all thought that thing was too big and overweight to be a sportscar.
I really wish OEMs would stop listening to focus groups, the average person has to be told what they want, if you make what they consensus wants you'll end up with fast food. Look at Tesla, for all the crap I give them, they pushed the envelope and now everyone wants an EV. Toyota happened to make the GR Yaris, something no focus group would've ever said they wanted because it doesnt have back doors, it's too small, it's a 3 banger, it's a 40k Yaris for christ sake, and they can't make them fast enough.
Granted, if BMW offered another CUV in their lineup it would probably sell faster than they produce them, so for general consumption cars yeah do the focus group thing. When it comes to passion project, they need to make what they feel is the best thing.
^ I saw an M4 on an autocross course and made a bet with someone it was an M6 just because of how much of a boat it was. I lost. That thing is way too big to be a 2 dr. Makes no sense at all. I liked the M2's size and it seems like a great mixed use car. I drove the OG M2 non-comp at an autocross and really liked how the car behaved. It danced well and didn't feel as heavy as it actually is. All controls, except for the throttle, were very intuitive. Throttle wasn't bad and I'm not used to driving turbo cars so some of it may have been me. Hard to believe the new one is 3.8k lbs but I do believe it.
As with most new cars, I'm sure this one will grow on me. The new designs also tend to look much better in person than in images. I do wish they'd find a way to keep them sub 3500 lbs at least. 3200 would be a much better number.

My sister does focus groups for a marketing firm and she just did one that was supposed to be gen Z female vodka drinkers, I kid you not. I would have liked to watch that one out of morbid curiosity.
