2023 M2......um...the front end
I think the Z4 is very handsome in both versions and a bit underrated. Fact is bangle launched a whole new era of car design that influenced nearly every manufacturer that now has sculpted flowing lines all across their cars. This era of BMW is not like that. It’s just ugly, overdone and without a cohesive perspective.
Yes the new laws restrict some design options but it’s no excuse for the square nose of the m2 or the huge nostrils of the m3. Audi, Porsche, etc are making stunning designs and work with the same constraints.

Exactly. Bangle created the flame surfacing design language as a response to the larger expanses of sheet metal due to crash regs, those lines break up space giving it a more sleek look.
People i feel don't miss old designs as much as they miss old proportions as cars were flatter.
Yeah audi and others have made it worth, you could throw Mazda into that mix too especially when you consider the price class they're in. Crash regs didn't dictate those design choices, bmw did. I do get a feeling it'll look better in person like the chipmunk grill of the 3/4 series, but I dunno, feels like bmw lost their way. Meanwhile Mercedes is quietly putting out nice designs as is Audi. Genesis entire lineup I'll take over bmws when it comes to design.
Mazda is making nice looking cars. Their interior design feels almost Audi level. They even managed to keep the Miata small. If it had more power I’m sure it would interest some s2000 owners.
Genesis is killing it and coming into their own.
And yes Mercedes is impressive as usual. Their new electrics look especially good.

Saw my first M2 (or maybe just an M240i, hard to say) over the weekend while out in DC. Was purple, which was nice. Rest of the car, not so much. To me, it didn't look better in person.
The latest Mercedes designs are horrible. They're bend over backward inoffensive designs. And all their EV models look like bars of soap. Almost everyone else is putting out better EV designs. Currently MB's design language is going nowhere.

They have taken one of my favorite cars and made it ugly. There is just nothing graceful or sleek about it. The design looks childish to me.
