They've been around since 2003 haven't they? I figured there would have been some 2nd hand ones lying around out there for considerably cheaper given its built for only one purpose.
I think, maybe, many Atom owners like their cars... a LOT

Also, I don't believe they ever made the K20 Atoms ever in the States. Imported ones from UK may not be street legal, if that really matters.

yes, the series 3 will be a k20, but from looking at their website they have barely begun to build them. i don't think any have hit the streets yet. check the news section - they just got engines in a couple months ago. the older brammo ones used the GM ecotec exclusively i believe.

atoms used to be around 40k new. they've gone up because of how popular they've gotten - if people are willing to pay more, they'll sell them for more. however, i think the level of competition is increasing with companies like KTM xbow joining the market - i'm hoping eventually the prices on all of these open track toys will get somewhat reasonable.

Hmm, looks like the Series 3 is going back to the UK's brazed frame? Rather than the welded frame Brammo went with. I recall there was a good bit of discussion about the merits of each, with no clear consensus on which is better.

For those who prefer or are insistent on the K20 vs Ecotec, any reason why?

exocars is a good resource. The SL-R looks tempting.

one has eco in the name and one doesnt ,

but really ones a gm engine the other is a honda, though they say they produce the same power supercharged, have to assume the honda is more reliable and a better engine.

the 3's are honda powered

TMI started their production by building Atom 3 cars which are Honda powered.

How can you assume that in the case of the Atom? In the case of the Atom you are talking about vehicles which will likely never see more than 30,000 miles and where the installation of the engine is far more likely to cause issues than the make of the engine. Really, I would expect both engines to be 100% trouble free for 30,000 miles IF both were installed properly.

If nothing else, GM's aftermarket engine group may be an advantage as they work hard to support crate engine applications. However, if Honda does the same (they might) then I would call it a wash.

After that all we could look at is power delivery and weight. I certainly wouldn't assume the Honda engine was better in this application.
